Author : Mortals against gods

Have you ever questioned your existence? maybe we are just characters in a story or frankly just a spark between worlds of fiction. Daniel questioned himself constantly on the truth behind creation, ever since the uncanny scar had been imprinted on his life. Revenge wasn't an option, because the perpetrator behind all of it was far greater than anyone. He was the Author, and Daniel was simply a character within his story. A simple life was all he wanted, but reality had a different path for him. His world would later collide with another, bringing forth an apocalypse filled with suffering. His question had reached an abrupt end, and his morale filled with dents of revenge. He only thought of one thing, and I suppose I would serve it as a question. What if you had to go against the plot? What if you had to battle the creator of your world for peace?. There are many more to it, but I promise. This story answers it all.

A new beginning

The rays of the sun fade through the curtains, providing a serene warmth to its surroundings. Daniel shakes a bit in his queen-sized bed and rolls over to the far side.

He brushes his face and draws out a tired breath, opening his eyelids in laziness.

Knock knock!

"Come in!!"

John walks into the room with a cup of green tea, known for its medicinal effects. He proceeds to stand above Daniel on the bed and kicks Daniel on his navel.

"Oww that hurt", Daniel shouts in pain.

"It wouldn't have been so painful I you had just allowed us to help. I saw your body signs from afar, warning us not to take a step away from our location. Even your eyes lit in excitement, from getting your ass whooped." John grins as he scolds Daniel.

Daniel laughs and looks deeply at the wooden ceiling, reminiscing his fight with the mafia boss. His hands trembled as if it had not ended, with his thoughts clouded in mischief.

"That was one hell of a punch! Don't you think?" Daniel smiles as he throws a fist into the air.

John falls on the bed, joining Daniel in the short moment of recollection. He draws his thoughts into the past, thinking of the fight, and also pushes his fist into the air.

"It was indeed. I promise to become strong enough to stand by your side." John giggles as he stems his resolve.

Daniel smiles gleaming at John. His thoughts remind him of the various adventures they had together. A faint voice rang from outside, notifying the two boys to get ready for school.

They join their grandfather in having breakfast after taking a cold shower, with a sausage breakfast casserole as the treat. An exchange of pleasantries fills the room and a little silence afterward.

The trio rise from their seats, pick up their bags, and stand in attention before Grandfather. They give a bow to show their respect and concentrate on the words of Grandfather.

"It would be criminal to devoid each of you a chance to live. That is why I chose to send you to school, however, you must not kill the kids in school. "

"Yes, grandfather!" The trio responds.

Grandfather coughs a bit and chugs down some juice to relieve his throat. He positions himself well in place, thinking of whether his choice is right or wrong.

But the constant trickery of the mind could not overshadow his growing love forbade kids. So he continued, for he believed they were taught well enough to protect themselves.

The children stood with eyes full of pleasure and happiness. Their resolve anchored deeper than ever. They waited for the remaining words, for only the door was what separated them from freedom.

Grandfather shook his head as he laughed, seeing their gleaming eyes of curiosity and adventure. He stood, and walked towards the kids, hugging them tightly as his own.

"Mmhm mhmm!!"

The roughness in his throat rang, showing his slight sense of protection. For even if they were strangers, he had watched over them every second.

Looking at the tablet which showed each progress the trio had, and sometimes visiting them without their knowledge. He adored the kids, but he couldn't be soft.

* If I must train these kids as my own, I need to feed them enough knowledge on how the world works. Thankfully they never show signs of having a deviated heart, and they pay heed to any instructions I give *

* I adore them so much, but I can't let that overshadow my teachings. THIS IS BECAUSE OF THOSE BASTARDS! They killed my son, dragged his body through the streets, and painted my doorstep with blood.*

* Of course I burnt them down, but that was just the beginning. Nothing could stop my yearning for revenge, but I couldn't complete it. Maybe I should give up on this, I should just live*

* Like a bird with no knowledge of what would happen tomorrow, I should just have fun with my grandkids *

Grandfather hugged them once more, his heart filled with love and hope. Hope he hadn't seen in years, drawing him closer into a new world he hadn't seen.

He stood upright in pride, with his hands fixed behind him. He gave an order to the kids, not only to live their lives but also to prevent anyone from stepping on them.

"The thing I hate is belittling. I will not stand for that, nor would I allow anyone to succeed in that over my household. So stand firm, live in school, and focus on your studies. Do not fall prey to anyone, rather be the hunter! "

"Yes, grandfather!!" The trio responds.

"Off you go then. There are houses bought specifically for you to stay in. It's not far from the school, so I trust you won't have any problems. In all, take good care. You are my future. Remember, A darkin?"

"Never tarnishes the family name, never stoops below his virtue, and always stands with pride!" The trio responds in honor.

Grandfather nods with tears of sadness and joy. He didn't want them to leave, yet as cubs, they needed the world. So he set them out to become lions.

The trio exits the house and makes their way into the black-sprayed 2024 Subaru Impreza. After a long trip from the house to the airport, the kids finally boarded the plane and set off to Japan.

Their destination was Hiroshima, a city in Japan that was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Although it had succumbed to death a few years before, its beauty had not weathered.

They finally arrived and took a cab, driving off to Hishorama Gakuin senior and junior high school. At an arrival time of 11:45 am, Julia and John waved Daniel goodbye before setting off to their respective schools.

The serene environment of the school was welcoming, with a nature-friendly environment. Daniel looked across, seeing no one, and wondered why it wasn't buzzy.

He ventured further in, approaching the hallway, and searched the names of the classes.

" JHS class 1, class 2, I'm sure it was class 2"

Daniel paused for a moment and took a deep breath, after all, it was the start of a new beginning for him. He grasped the handle of the door and twisted the knob.

His breath seized as the attention of the students focused on him. His dark hair and blue eyes gave them a sense of prediction.

"A foreigner??" A student murmured.

"He looks cute, and fit" Another girl at the corner whispered to her mate.

Daniel stood in awe, but his pride was too great to succumb to puberty. So he stood upright in valor.

"Daniel, you are here. Come! Stand before the class and introduce yourself. " The teacher smiled gleamingly.

Daniel asked for a marker from the teacher as the room was silent. He took 2 steps toward the whiteboard and wrote.

[ダニエル]

Daniel turned back at the class with a fixed face. His teachings of the underworld did not permit smiles or laughter, so he stood firm.

"Watashi no namae wa Danieru desu!"

He bowed in respect to the class, as they sat astonished. Daniel stemmed his resolve to learn and cope, but not fall prey. He took in a deep breath as his thoughts clouded.

*Finally, a new start. Let's pray bones don't get broken early*

The school is a real school, as well as its location. I tried using that to broaden my readers imagination, so I hope it helps. Thanks for reading so far :)
