Chapter 141: "Roch's Return"
Enhanced physical abilities and heightened senses are understandable.
After all, it's still within the realm of bodily enhancements.
But awakening the ability to control fire seems a bit too much.
In another world, magic has a complete system of inheritance, where one learns and uses it to control the transformation of mana.
In this world, awakening powers from within feels more like the bloodline abilities of the "Warlock" class.
A warlock's power doesn't require learning.
It's also dependent on bloodline awakening, like the Captain of Team 2 in Blackstone Town, "Turisa," who had an ice bloodline.
She could cast various bloodline spells.
So, the ability awakenings in this world are quite similar to warlock bloodline awakenings.
Hearing the surprise in Wu Heng's voice, Li Yanhong glanced at him with curiosity.
"Surprised?"
"Not really. Where is it?"
"In 'Jinjia Valley.' The leader's title is 'Flame God,' and I've heard he has some followers," Li Yanhong continued.
Jinjia Valley was a place near the edge of the city.
It was surrounded by small villages.
It makes sense to choose that area as a base, away from densely populated urban centers.
It's unclear whether the survivors were originally from the village or if they fled there later.
In any case, this is good news for humanity.
Humanity is evolving, and various abilities are quite encouraging.
"Flame God? Why that name?" Wu Heng was a bit curious.
"It's just a code name," Li Yanhong replied calmly.
She glanced at him cautiously.
Although it couldn't be verified, she felt the name "Flame God" was likely influenced by the title "King of Hell."
"Makes sense," Wu Heng thought for a moment, then asked, "How many people are left at the repair shop?"
"Seven."
"Tomorrow, I'll have Big-Head Skeleton protect you. Go through the cleared apartment buildings and scavenge everything—glasses, porcelain bowls, plastic basins, any household items. I'll need them later," Wu Heng instructed.
Li Yanhong frowned, unsure of the purpose behind collecting such items.
The nearby area was a residential zone, and there were plenty of homes. These were all common items, and there would likely be a large number of them.
"Do they need to be intact?"
"Yes, try to keep them undamaged. Just start collecting."
"Alright, I'll have some crash protection fabric ready tonight and take people to gather them tomorrow," Li Yanhong said.
This was one of the things Wu Heng liked about her.
Whatever task was assigned, she immediately thought of a way to get it done.
Very straightforward.
"Hmm."
They chatted for a bit before going their separate ways.
After returning to the residential complex, Wu Heng gave Big-Head Skeleton the task of assisting Li Yanhong tomorrow.
With nothing else to do.
He returned to his own place.
......
Entering the study.
Wu Heng took out the skill book he had exchanged for yesterday and began to examine it.
[Feather Fall]
It allows up to five targets to fall from a great height without taking damage.
Based on the description and explanation, this skill falls under the transformation category.
It alters the trajectory of descent to ensure a safe landing without injury.
In Wu Heng's understanding, it likely changes the potential energy of the target, keeping it within a safe range for landing, thereby achieving the spell's effect.
It's quite a useful skill.
Flipping to the last page.
A prompt appeared.
[Skill unlocked: Feather Fall.]
After learning the skill.
Wu Heng was about to rest.
Knock knock knock~!
A white-feathered owl was perched outside the third-floor window, tapping lightly with its hard beak.
It was Wen Mansa's tamed beast.
Wu Heng opened the window, and the owl landed directly on the desk in front of him.
He parted the thick feathers and revealed a note tied to its slender leg.
[They're here.]
Wu Heng's eyes narrowed.
Roch had returned.
......
At the Spikes Gang headquarters.
The burly figure of Roch sat behind a desk.
"Your intel was wrong, it nearly got me killed," Roch said angrily.
Across from him sat the tall and thin 'Fisher,' who responded, "He just arrived in Rentam City, only had two attendants with him. How did you fail?"
"I arranged several people, all skilled members of the gang. Something must have gone wrong," Roch continued.
Because of Fisher's intel.
He not only lost several of his best men but also had to hide for three days out of fear.
Those three days, he had been constantly on edge, afraid to leave and always watching the situation outside.
For a gang leader, it was utterly humiliating.
"Hmph, at least he didn't figure anything out," Fisher said, glancing at him. "This time, I'll arrange for him to be sent on a mission outside the city. You can set up an ambush and kill him in the wild."
Roch's eyes widened, about to shout, but he quickly lowered his voice, "Are you crazy? This nearly went wrong, and you still want to go through with it?"
"You think it's over? As long as he's alive, he'll be a problem eventually. He has to die," Fisher said, slapping the back of his chair with a firm tone.
Roch continued to stare at him, knowing that Fisher was dead set on this plan.
Backing out now seemed impossible.
Either he'd have to deal with Fisher right here, or he'd agree to the plan and try to kill that kid from Squad 12.
Either way, it was killing someone from the Guild.
There was no turning back.
Taking a deep breath, Roch said, "Fine, let me know when, but this time, we have to make sure he's dead."
"Good, I'll make sure the payment is worth it. Don't mess this up again," Fisher said as he put on his scarf and cloak, then walked out.
Roch sighed, watching him leave.
At that moment, Wen Mansa walked out from the back room.
She quietly asked, "You're still not going to stop?"
Roch looked at his woman, noticing she seemed quite different from when he had left.
Her skin was smoother, and her complexion more radiant.
He reached out to pull her into his arms, but she dodged him.
Sighing, he said, "Still mad at me? I knew there was no real danger, that's why I left you here. If I were leaving for good, do you think I wouldn't have taken you with me?"
Wen Mansa sat down nearby, not discussing it further.
Instead, she asked, "Are you really going to keep listening to Fisher?"
"Let's see what happens. If he can really lure the guy out of the city to a deserted area, we can kill him," Roch said.
Wen Mansa didn't respond, only giving a cold smile and looking away.
Roch smiled, "Don't worry, that kid doesn't have much skill. Killing him won't be difficult."
He looked again at his increasingly radiant woman and said softly, "Tomorrow, I'm meeting with the leader of the White Wolf Gang to discuss something. I need you to come with me and help seal the deal."
Wen Mansa stared at him, "You want me to accompany them?"
"For the sake of the gang, make a small sacrifice."
Wen Mansa still didn't answer.
She glanced out at the night sky and said softly, "I'm going to sit at the gate for a while."
"Hmm."
Wen Mansa stepped out of the courtyard, glancing at the two gang members standing guard.
"Alright, there's nothing going on tonight. You can all go home and come back in the morning."
"Yes, Sister-in-law."
The subordinates left.
Three figures emerged from a nearby alley.
Wen Mansa looked at them and sighed, "He's inside. Fisher just left."
"Hmm, go wait at the tavern for a while. No need to come back yet."
"Thank you, Master."
Wen Mansa nodded and left the alley, heading toward the tavern across the street.
