There was a large round table in the sacred room. The representatives of the two races seated themselves opposite of each other, while Portnis sat down in a position where both parties were in her field of view.
The King Rudolph of the Humas and the Demon Lord Eveam of the Evila were the only ones who sat down. Others deliberately remained standing to react in case something happened. Both parties were thinking the same thing.
Rudolph was accompanied by his cabinet minister, Dennis, a guild master, Judom, as well as 5 other guards, including the captain that guided Eveam to the sacred room.
Eveam's party consisted of her aide, Kiria, Cruel Brigade's 3rd seat, Teckil, and 8th seat, Izumi.
Even though Izumi was only in the 8th seat, his abilities and power had been recognized by the Cruel Brigade from the 1st to 6th seats. And in this conference, he had been appointed as Aquinas' replacement to guard Eveam.
Judom fixed his gaze on Izumi, this was the first time he had seen Izumi. Izumi's appearance was much different from the others because he was wearing an autumn maple-patterned kimono. Besides, his appearance was completely different from Evila in general.
Judom Lankars had a nice white beard, although he looked old, he was only in his late 40s. There was another reason besides his age that made his hair look like an old man's. Although his gentle expression gave off an aura that even children felt comfortable with. But his abnormal figure was so obvious. The height of his body is over two meters and his arms look as hard as steel. His whole body is so muscular that everyone would think his clothes would rip on the slightest movement.
Izumi noticed Judom's gaze as he gaze him back with a smirk. He knew Judom was the most powerful person in the Humas continent. Izumi wondered what his expression would be after knowing the King of Humas himself was a traitor to his race.
Without a change in expression, Judom who glanced at Izumi began to think.
"Unexpectedly, at an important meeting like this, Aquinas, who was called the strongest Evila, was not present and instead was replaced by a kid. This brat looked unobtrusive and he didn't give off any fearful aura either which kept him from attracting the attention of others. If he could hide his abilities like that, it would mean that he was more dangerous than Aquinas. Because other people don't know exactly what he is capable of."
Judom thought that the reason why Aquinas was replaced by Izumi was that everyone recognized his abilities, even Eveam.
When it came to Kiria, Judom only knew that Kiria's strength was on the same level as the members of the Cruel Brigade who occupied the seats under Aquinas.
Judom looked at Izumi who was smirking while narrowing his eyes while looking at Judom. There was no visible feeling of nervousness in Izumi. Instead, Judom felt that Izumi was waiting for a show that might be presented by Rudolph, the King of the Humas side.
With Aquinas absent and only Teckil present, the five guards looked confident that if a war broke out, Humas would win because they had Judom.
But Judom thought otherwise. He could be overwhelmed if he faced Kiria and Teckil at the same time. And if Izumi was stronger than he thought, the situation would be even more dangerous if war did occur.
The use of magic and bringing weapons into the sacred room was prohibited, so they could only rely on their physical abilities in a fight. Judom also didn't know that Izumi only handed over the twin daggers that were on his waist. No one knew that Izumi had his own storage space.
Judom understood, the five guards definitely couldn't match the strength of the Cruel Brigade present at this conference.
Actually, Judom suggested a plan to include some of his most trusted and skilled adventurers in the conference, but his plan was rejected by both cabinet minister, Dennis, and king Rudolph. Rudolph stated that he only wanted people he trusted by his side and wouldn't give Judom's plan further consideration.
When the Head Priestess explained the purpose of this conference, Rudolph slowly spoke.
"There is something I would like to ask, Head Priestess!"
"What might that be, King Rudolph?"
All eyes were on Rudolph when he suddenly asked.
"This sacred room is easy to enter, but to exit, it requires the permission of the Head Priestess, and the number of people that can enter, including the Head Priestess, is 13 people, correct?"
"Yes, that's how it is. Why did you ask that?"
Portnis slightly inclined her head, and wondered why Rudolph asked that.
"No information at all can enter in from the outside, it certainly is a room worthy of being called a separating space. Sorry for taking up your time. I just wanted to confirm it in advance."
"N-no problem."
That was something that everyone here, no, since the minister next to him was faintly smiling, it was likely that he knew something. Even so, nearly everybody was dumbfounded by Rudolf's strange remarks. Even people on Evila's side narrowed their eyes as they had some doubts about Rudoph's strange conduct.
Judom was not entirely aware as to what purpose Rudolph would have to confirm such a thing. Judom noticed, there was someone who had a different expression on Evila's side. That person was Izumi. While the others were having doubts about Rudolph, Izumi looked like he was holding back his laughter while covering his mouth.
It looked like Izumi was aware of Rudolph's plan. But what surprised him was, Izumi seemed the only one who had the clue, while the others didn't. This put Judom on guard against Izumi.
The conference continued with Rudolph and Eveam introducing themselves to each other. Rudolph didn't speak as politely as Eveam did, and this infuriated Teckil who was beside Izumi.
Izumi nudged his elbow at Teckil to calm him down, telling him not to draw attention.
Eveam and Rudolph started to argue because Rudolph said many people didn't want peace with Evila. Eveam said.
"There was once a conflict between Humas and Evila. It started with the previous demon lord, Avoros. That is why we must step forward to defuse the conflict because the sadness and hatred are already piling up. If one does not break this chain of conflict, the time of peace will never come!"
Judom heard her idealistic thoughts and felt that she was voicing them in earnest. It was precisely because she truly wanted to establish an alliance that she had come here like this to meet the representative of an enemy country. What's more, she came to enemy territory with only a few people, her behavior could be called suicidal.
Having been given such extremely unfavorable conditions, if Eveam were to present nonsense at this conference, Evila would immediately stir up hostility.
In a situation that could potentially lead to further conflict, for her to blurt out such words without a single lie showed how much Eveam herself truly believed in Humas.
Judom looked at Eveam where he started to feel a deja vu. He had the feeling that he had met her before, yet it had just crossed his mind.
His eyes widened in realization, he looked at her once more to confirm it. And with that, he was sure that she matched the girl from his memories. Yes, Judom had met Eveam eight years ago when he helped Aquinas to kill Avoros. Had it not been for Judom's help, Aquinas would not have been able to kill Avoros alone. Well, at this point, he still didn't know that Avoros had come back to life. Judom and Aquinas were rivals, but they respected each other. They had almost killed each other many times before working together to wipe out Avoros at that time.
Judom was cautious about other races but felt no hatred for them and genuinely wished for peace with them. Therefore, he admired Eveam's dream of world peace. But as everyone admits, she is still too naive and immature as a diplomat to change the world.
