Vol.1 Chap 11: Give me a chance

I head home closing the door behind me, that rush I felt mere moments ago still crushing my chest like a tidal wave trying to keep me down, I placed my hand over it pressing against my heart trying to calm myself, to slow my breathing.

I closed the door behind me locking out the harsh cold wind that beat against my back on the way here, my pale skin shivering to even the freezing temperatures of the forest. My eyes lowered to my hands, hugging my shivering body for warmth, though it was never this cold before, I never felt this cold before.

My lips quivered as I thought, my heart, yearned for something to be by that fire once more.

"Is this what father felt when he..." My voice trailed off, biting my lip to stop utter nonsense from escaping my lips. Shaking my head to dispel the thought completely. "No, don't speak such nonsense, Elisa."

I muttered to myself my hand covering my mouth lightly my gaze on my palm as my mind raced.

"You're merely interested in them, nothing more," I hissed at myself, my hands digging into my arms as I spoke, closing my eyes shut as I tried to fight these feelings.

"Oh? Are you really?" A familiar voice echoed through the confines of my room, I turned to see who said that, my eyes darting across my room in fear until they finally landed on him.

"J-Jovian?" I stuttered, my heart panging even faster in my chest defeating all attempts to calm down, he got even closer to me, his hand on my chin before I could even react, his emerald gaze staring deep into my eyes.

"You were out talking with a human weren't you?" he asked, his voice hushed and calming, his lightly tanned skin pushing against my pale outer shell the warmth was there but not as warm as him. "What would happen if your dear mother found out."

I tugged my face away from his, my hair brushing against his face as I turned away.

"She wouldn't dare harm her daughter!" I shouted at him, mad that he would even suggest such a thing, the most I would get was a slap on the wrist I'm sure of it.

"Not now, you are needed to be my spouse after all, and speaking of that," He got closer to my ear so he could speak, a hushed secret between us and us alone sending chills down my spine. "Our final ball is in a few weeks."

He pulled away with a coy smile, his eyes lit up with excitement.

"Just think, you and I are going to be bound together forever and ever! Until death do us part," He grabbed onto my hand, staring me deep in my eyes once more, his warmth wrapped around mine caressing my cold slim fingers. "Please Elisa, we're going to be married whether you like it or not, if you're really not interested in this human as you say, please, give me a proper chance."

I didn't know what to say, with Jovian getting closer and closer to me I felt stiff, standing there with nothing to say as he brought me into his slightly warm embrace. Slowly I raised my arms, hugging him close as I buried my head into his chest, the hard golden buttons from his tux pressing against me but I didn't care, my hand clawed into his back my face tearing up into his chest as he brushed my hair with his palm, a warm smile looking down on me.

I looked up at him, my face a mess and flushed with tears, my fingers digging deeper into his silk suit, every fiber in my being was telling me not to listen, not to give him a chance, to push him away right now but, I, I need this comfort, this warmth that I've grown so accustomed to, the warmth another vampire couldn't give me.

He looked down at me, his eyebrows furrowing in concern.

"Something wrong?" He asked I shook my head in response, burying my head once more into his embrace.

"Nothing, nothing's wrong."

"Your Highness, we need to do something about that boy and fast!" Lady Mirisa suggested a sense of urgency laced into her words, staring up at the king.

His hands propped up his face as he thought, silver gaze staring directly at the door his son once came through.

"Now, now Lady Mirisa, you need to give our Highness time to think, we don't want to be hasty now do we?" Claus pointed out, adjusting his gloves during the meeting.

"No, no, Lady Mirisa's right, as beautiful as I think she is, I don't think even Sorcha can change that boy's mind," He grunted, his eyes closing from fatigue at the thought. "I'm going to entrust everything to you, Mirisa, see to it that Fraus never sees her again."

"Of course your highness," Mirisa smiled, her toothy grin spreading across her face nothing but evil thoughts flooding her mind. "I'll see to it right away."

She disappeared, a puff of smoke left behind as she flew out of the throne room doors, leaving the two behind and waiting.

"So what would become of the young prince?" Claus asked, his face contorting into a look of worry,

"If he persists with this, he will have to be put to death, there's no way around it," He muttered, raising his head from his fists.

"But sir, isn't that a bit too harsh?" Claus asked.

"I know it is Claus, but there's nothing else to do, we can't risk fighting the humans, they aren't like us they're savages!" The king snapped his hand hitting his throne in anger, and frustration, tears welling up in his eyes but he can not bear to let them show. "He's my son, you know that."

Claus looked down to his hands, ashamed he even brought it up.

"I know, my apologies, sire."
