New beginnings

I lean my head against the cold window of Ella's Jeep, watching the trees go by, listening to the soft songs on the radio as Ella and Max discuss our hotel rooms and costs.

Flashback to three hours ago~

"He did what?!" Ella yells, looking at me with shock. Max also seems shocked at the news.

"He.. tried to reject me?" I hesitantly say, looking past her to the growing crowd of onlookers.

Ella pulls out her phone, calling someone. "Rose?" She asks, waiting for a response, "No this isn't about an outing, we're going on a... vacation. We need a place for three." She waits yet again. "Yeah, Eve's here. I'll tell you later

.. okay see you then."

She looks back to us, "Pack a week's worth of clothing once we get to the pack house."

We pull up to a large apartment building, the bricks turn orange in the evening sun and the windows glow with the setting sun, glaring down at us in all five stories.

"We're staying here?" I ask numbly.

"Yep, I have a friend that lives here, she'll let us stay with her." Ella says, getting out of the car. "Let's go, she can't wait to meet you."

I get up from my seat, stretching my limbs, sore from lack of use in the past five hours, my wings strain against the thin material of my shirt as they ache for release. But I know better,ax warned me that if anyone saw we would gather too much attention and might be found by enemy packs, or rogues, the word alone send shivers down my spine and fear pulsing through my veins.

Max grabs our bags and leads the way to the reception desk, he speaks with the woman working there for a minute, I don't pay attention to what they say as I look around the bright room, golden pillers are engulfed in plastic vines with vases lining the bottoms, near a set of elevators a water fall flows from celling to floor in a straight line, not making a sound as the water glides down with a graceful  elegance that leaves me stunned by its design. I feel a touch on my shoulder, flinching slightly as I'm pulled out of my thoughts to reality.

"Let's go," Ella says. We ride the elevator up to the fifth floor and to a door numbered 105. Ella doesn't even knock before the door flings open, a tall dark woman on practacly flies out and picking up Ella in a seconds notice.

"Elly!" She laughs, twisting in a circle before setting Ella down next to Max. "I haven't seen you in forever! You Max and I haven't seen you since. If Rider hadn't told me you were mated to the beta I would have sent a search party after you!" She takes a breath before focusing on me, "And you! You must be Ever!" She picks me up and startles at my weight, "Why if be damned, you're light as a feather dolly, let's make ya somin' to eat, what'd ya like?" She carries me into the room effortlessly and sets me on a plush sofa. "Not much for words are ya?"

"Not really," I say, looking at Ella as she walks in, rolling her eyes dramatically and mouthing sorry to me. "So you're Ella's friend? How'd ya meet?" I ask, turning to the girl as she fumbles around in the kitchen.

"Oh Elly? We met in the last year of highschool, she was real mopey then, 'till she met me of course. She opened up a lil more when we went to collage and we've stayed friends ever since, actually we're still in collage, we're graduating in the fall to be exact, we used to share this appertment before she went all AWOL on me. The names Rose by the way." The girl, Rose, finished whatever she was making in the kitchen and sits beside me on the sofa, a bowl of arranged fruits in hand. "Eat up doll."

I hesitantly pick out something red out of the bowl and take a bite, it melts in my mouth instantly. The sweet and sour flavor is perfect and I can't help eating more. Ella and Rose begin talking about something but I don't pay much attention as I pick through the assortments of different fruits.

After a few minutes Ella takes me to settle in the room I was gonna stay in. It had bright pastel walls, a plush carpet, and a bed that could fit seven of me on it. "This is all for me?" I ask, bewildered at the size of the room alone, it could fit two other beds and a table to boot.

"Yep, go ahead and take a shower and change into some night cloths, Max and I are in the room to the left of yours if you need anything," she says while she walks out, shutting the door behind her.

I sigh, laying on the bed as I'm left with my thoughts, why would Axel call Max? What does rejecting mean and why couldn't Axel go through with it? Why is Scar still blocking me? Why doesn't Snow explain what's going on? Why are we here and not at the pack house?

Tears fill my eyes as I finnaly acknowledge the last question, my heart aches as I force myself to think it and the tears pool over, a dam breaking.

What did I do to deserve this?
