Chapter 40- She Never Woke Up
Eight years prior
It was a cold moonless night in Aleyska mountain, and the isolated compound centered on numerous dilapidated buildings. It housed a group of hopeless slaves— the young and old, the broken and defiant.
The wooden walls were warped and weathered, the paints peeling away in long strips. The rotting woods were starting to reveal, but the house seemed strong enough to sustain the slaves from the harshness of the season.
The icy wind howled mercilessly outside, dislodging the snow that clung to the eaves. It cascaded down the wall like silent tears, and an eighteen-year-old lad stood at the entranceway, observing the spectacle with solitary eyes.
His freezing hands sought warmth in the multiple blankets he brought with him, and his breath was visible in the frigid air. The hesitancy in his eyes, mixed with fear and a glint of anger, made him have second thoughts, thus, his iridescent orbs wavered.
