Why me?

was the question going through Throm's mind as he stared at the orb in the center of the nothingness that they were currently in. In turn, another voice echoed in his mind,

"No reason, in particular, You aren't the only one in this race. Others exist with other unique powers as well. You are just the lucky one getting preferential treatment."

The blue orb bobbed up and down while the voice was transmitted into Thorm's head. Thorm had an urge to pet it, but he managed to fight it. The reason for that was simple, he was afraid of the orb. He felt an instinctual dread towards the orb as if it could blow his life out like a candle.

"Ok before we discuss any further, can you make me a soundproof room with things I can break?"

Behind Thorm a white room apparated into existence, the orb bobbed a little towards the room as if indicating that the request was completed. Thorm stiffly walked into the room, surveyed it, and was satisfied. Closing the door behind him, he spent the next hour and a half venting his shock at dying and frustration with his whatever was happening right now. After sufficiently venting himself, he walked out of the room relaxed.

The orb then bobbed again and the room melted back into the void. Thorm then walked back towards the orb and then sighed and asked.

"So then what perks do I get?"

"Well in your case, you will get the ability to learn any skill you want and increase their ability without putting in the effort."

"Oh really? What's the catch? I don't really believe in a free lunch you know."

"It's simple, for the sake of obtaining such a gift, your fate has been taken from you. You will be bound by a system to achieve any sort of growth in this world."

"What do you mean my fate's been taken from me? Also, what's this system?"

The orb changed from its light blue color to a more navy blue shade. And as it did so, the feeling of dread in Thorm's soul spiked to the point as if he were having a heart attack. And in that state the orb coldly stated.

"Do you think powers come for free? Do you want to know why your fate's going away? It's being used to fuel the power you oh so desperately want. As for the system bit, that's just the structure I use to monitor the growth of those under me, and I can give some extra perks and missions while I'm at it. Now stop being such a pain and get lost. You have a whole new world to explore, monsters to fight, maidens to rescue, kingdoms to build, yadda, yadda, yadda, dontcha?"

"Yeah about that... Can I have a safe haven too? You know someplace I can be safe during times I am in trouble or something? Yeah, also it would be nice if it's practical, also the ability to grow would be coo..."

And before Thorm could go further with his demands, the orb opened a portal below Thorm's feet sending him plummeting into the abyss.
