The Introduction

It makes me furious thinking about how I could have changed my life if I chose medicine against law. Reading these textbooks, and memorizing every bit of every law is challenging and burdensome at the same time. Sometimes I think I should give up but the only thing keeping me from giving up right now is that it is just for 3 more months until I'm done.

I pack my books and set my bag, tomorrow is my first mock exam and I'm so unprepared it's ridiculous. I pray to god to let me pass this mock and that I will study for the actual exam. I go straight to bed while my sleep catches me.

I wake up to my 6 am alarm and leave for school. My exam starts at 8 and finishes at 10. As soon as I leave my exam hall Zoe is rushing up to me. I have known Zoe since freshman year she is my only best friend in this college. However, she is too talkative if you are in a bad mood.

"Hey Elena, how did your exam go?"

oh god not this question, please

"It went well'' I reply

''Well? Mine went dope" she smiles when she tells me that.

"That's great, wanna grab a sandwich with me?"

"Sure"

Zoe is smiling way too much today. Although she isn't a morning person, today she seems extremely energetic and by the looks of it, she must have had a great exam today.

We walk towards the cafeteria and grab our sandwiches. I have told Zoe about everything. How my father asked me to join law school just because he wanted at least one child to be in law although I could have gone for medicine unfortunately my fate gave up on my entrance exam and I was forced to study law. My brother Juan was involved in some drug dealing crime last year which lead to our family reputation getting ruined. My dad didn't want me to stay in Madrid due to what my brother did everyone in the city came upon us. It was just before my sophomore exams and I was bullied just for being Juan Martinez's Sister, as he was claimed to be a drug dealer I was seen as a criminal too. Just because one family member fucks up his career doesn't mean people can put freaking slogans about the entire Martinez Family being Drug dealers. But just because of Juan I had to move to Valencia. And now the worst of all he is back.

I tell Zoe that my brother is back in Madrid, he was sent to Australia last year but he came back. She tells me it will be alright, but it is everything but alright.

"Stop overthinking Elena, it's been a year since that drug dealing incident I bet no one will remember that," Zoe says so easily.

"How can I not? If he is here my dad will set up a reunion of the entire family. I would have to go to Madrid and I don't even want to hear the name of the city again" I sigh.

"Well, I can't say more than the fact that it is something that is bound to happen so just mentally prepare yourself or you can always ditch them and have a sleepover with me" she grins. This is Zoeva Arthur, always changing negative thoughts and ideas into positive ones. I never see her complaining. Sometimes I wish I could be like her and leave all my worries behind and give everyone a genuine smile.

We both leave the cafeteria and rush home to start studying for our exam tomorrow. I didn't prepare for the first one doesn't mean I can go unprepared for others. As soon as I reach home, I take a shower and grab my highlighters to start getting facts and opinions on every case.

Ryker

Entering the Alonso security building, I hand over my briefcase to my guard. My Assistant greets me and joins me. I tell her to grab me a coffee and email me today's schedule. I enter my office and a strong scent hits me. I find my father sitting on my chair. He always knows how to annoy me, showing up unannounced isn't a great way to meet your son, is it?

"Why are you here?" I ask

"That's how you greet your father? You should at least go on a day without disappointing me Ryker " he says while shaking his head.

"Great. Now would you like to tell me why are you here? unannounced." I put a bit of pressure on the last word

"Well, my dear son. Juan Martinez is back in town" he says with a smirk

"What?"

It feels like I almost misheard it when he says

"Juan Martinez is back in town"

What the actual fuck.
