" What were you thinking? " Kai asked as soon as we stepped out of the elevator and entered the penthouse.
To be honest, I had seen the scolding coming. He had been tensed the whole ride back so I knew he was thinking of the ways he would reprimand me.
I pressed my lips into a thin lip and hid with Zeus.
" You're scaring her-"
" I told her to get into the car and go home. One instruction, one Zeus. That was all she had to follow. " He said.
His words combined with the same ones he said at the church to the council brought tears to my eyes. I blinked them back as quickly as I could but I couldn't stop them from falling.
" Leela…" Kai said, his voice trailing away when he saw my tears. It was clear that he hadn't realized he was hurting me in the haze of his anger but the damage had been done.
