Death

A/N: First, thanks for reading. I just wanted to say my English is not that great to expect bad grammar and misused word or phrases. I wanted to let anyone who reads this know up front I have no real plans for this novel, it is just an exercise given to me by my therapist to help understands my own emotions better. Also got this Idea from a friend of mine, I don't know roman history that well, but I will try and do some research to make it more realistic hope you enjoy.

*****************************************************************

Being back in Hispania after so many years is refreshing. After having traveled to many places since joining Legio X Equestris, I can so longer say that it is the most beautiful place I've been, but it will always be my favorite place and home.

Staring up at the hill occupied by the Pompeian army, it made me think back on the battles I've fought in, in the past four years, since Julius started his civil war.

I still think the savages of the Gauls put up a better fight than the Pompeians. I mean, it took us about eight years to fully defeat them, and according to Julius, if we win here we win the war.

I have to say I am looking forward to seeing how long it will take our eight legions to defeat their thirteen.

After eight gruesome hours of fighting, neither side had an advantage over the other. The commanding generals took it upon themselves to enter the fray.

Joining the X legion Julius Caesar, the now inspired troops slowly pushed back the Pompeian left wing.

Gnaeus Pompeius, noticing his left-wing slowly crumbling, he sent an order to reinforce the left with a member of his right-wing. With the crumbling left-wing and now weakened right-wing, Caesar's allies took this chance to charge the Pompeian base from behind.

Labienus noticed the enemy and took some of his men to stop them. This led Gnaeus's less experienced troops to believe that they were retreating, leading them to break their ranks.

Julius Caesar and his troops took full advantage of this, killing off lots of Pompeian troops that ran or took refuge at Munda. They finally ended the battle by capturing the rest of the enemy thirteen legions.

Watching Julius charge into the fray way a sight to behold, no matter what anyone may say that old man sure can fight, not that I would ever call him that.

As we were killing off the cowards who ran and capturing those who surrendered, all I could think of was drinking a bottle of Falernian and enjoying the company of some women.

I was walking a Pompeian soldier who surrendered back to base when from the corner of my eye I saw a Pompeian playing dead right behind Julius.

With speed I didn't know I had, I managed to push him out of the way of the spear, just before it hit him, getting impaled myself, but not before I cut off the Pompeian's head with my trusted Gladius.

Noticing the commotion I made my fellow troops, made their way to our location, and saw I could make out silhouettes of my fellow legion X members saluting me.

As my vision faded along with my hearing, the last thing I could do before I drew my last breath was to look up at Julius Caesar and my brother in the X and say "Gloria Exercitus, Glory to Rome"

As my vision faded, I could see my life play out before me, all the training I did before I joined the VIII legion, the day I became a centurion of the X legion, and The day we became known as Legio X Equestris.

Smiling fondly as I relived my life, I knew I could pass on and meet Mercury. I couldn't wait to see the river Styx. With those thoughts, I closed my eyes and embraced the darkness.

Opening my eyes, I was greeted by the sight of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.

She had long bittersweet red hair, flawless, healthy pink skin, bountiful breast, and full lips. The deep red dress she wore left little to the imagination.

The dress had a long slit from her hip down to her feet on both sides, exposing her flawless pillow thighs and the toned calves, the deep V-neck went down to just after her belly button showing off her toned, beautiful stomach and if it wasn't for the black wireless lingerie bra, her breast would be exposed.

Never having seen someone so beautiful, I was stunned, not even the most famous statue Venus was could compare to her.

Out of nowhere, she began to giggle; I swear if I wasn't dead already... No, even now I would gladly die as many times as it takes just to hear the melodious laugh again.

I noticed a tinge of surprise as she suddenly stopped giggling and look towards me after she sat down on a throne that appeared out of nowhere.

"You sure are taking your death rather well, and it seems you haven't noticed you don't have a body, and that's why you aren't reacting. Well, not reacting that much to my appearance."

"Well, I always knew death was a risk in my life. I was expecting to meet Mercury and be guided to the river Styx, but if dying meant I got to meet you, then I don't care what happens to me."

"Ara Ara~ Someone has a glib tongue. Under normal circumstances, that little boy would meet worthy souls such as yourself and guides them to the river Styx, but you did a deed that corrected history and shouldn't have happened in the first place and the gods have decided to reward you. And if I'm being completely honest, I did and still favor you quite a bit."

"Corrected history? Oh well, it doesn't matter that much, and I feel as though you won't tell me even if I ask. Forgive me for being rude. It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Athanasius Canina. Would you do me the honour of hearing your name?"

"It seems that I forgot my manners as well. Please forgive my late introduction, I have many names, though you may know it already It is a pleasure to finally meet you Athanasius my name is Venus."

"Please forgive my rudeness Venus Obsequens. If I had kno-"

Before I could finish my sentence, I felt something on my lips. Before I knew it, my favorite goddess and the only one that I worship left her throne and was now directly in front of me with her finger on my lips.

"Please, none of that, that sort of language doesn't suit you. I have been watching you for longer than I care to admit. I know everything about you. Please feel free to speak freely."

"But... Very well, since it's you who are asking me, I will speak freely with you Venus."

Giving me the most enchanting smile I've ever seen, Venus returned to her throne, just as fast as she left it.

"Good. Now that we have all that out of the way let's get on with your rewards."

After saying that, she clapped her hands, and a giant wheel appeared behind me.

"Is that wheel my reward?"

"Nope, not quite. The reward that we have given you is, a chance to live a second life. The wheel behind you has several worlds that would suit you well written on the wedges, you get one chance to spin that wheel and you get to go to that world, you also get to spin three other wheels to determine some powers you get. And before you ask, you can keep the same appearance, customize it, or have it be random don't worry, it won't change your gender, and y personal gift to you is that if you wish you can keep your memories."

"Another world! The thought of going to another world excites me and makes me feel nostalgic, and I don't know why."

After I said that, I swear for a brief second Venus had a hopeful look on her face, but seeing that she went back to her normal expression, I disregarded that.

"So all I have to do is spin the wheel?"

Seeing her nod in conformation, I made my way to the wheel and span it as hard as I could. After a few minutes, it finally stopped on a wedge with some strange symbol I have never seen before.

"Congratulations You get to live your next life in the world knows as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Or DanMachi for short. It is a world where its gods left the comfort of Heaven to enter the world of mortals in search of excitement, the limit of their divine power. They also offer mortals to the power fight monsters in an underground labyrinth known as the Dungeon. The people who receive a god's blessing join what they call a familia. It is a world unlike yours because it is filled with magic and many unique races such as elves ad dwarves."

I became excited by the thought of fighting actual monsters and maybe even some gods. Maybe dying was a blessing after all.

With a wave of her hand, Venus made new wheels appear behind me

"This is the first power wheel, and just now I decided that instead of three different wheels, you can spin this one three times."

After I spun the wheel the first time, I decided not to wait and just spin it two more times and have Venus tell me what I got after the third spin.

"You are quite the lucky one, aren't you? Although I'm not allowed to tell you what your powers do, as you will have to learn them yourself, take my word for it. Once you master your powers, it would be quite hard for any normal mortal to fight you: The first power you received was the warp ability from Final Fantasy, including all Warp-enhancing abilities, the second power was Sword Birth, a Sacred Gear from the world of High School DxD, and the third power you received was Signs from The Witcher 3."

"I mean, I do not know what they are, but they sound interesting."

"Trust me, they are. Sadly, our time is running out and I'll have to reincarnate you. So, I must ask, would you like to keep the memories of your past life? And what would you like to do about your appearance?"

"I thought about it when I was spinning the wheels and decided that I would like to keep my memories, as for my appearance I have lived my life as Athanasius Canina and while I plan to train as I did before a new life deserves a new body and name, so please give me a random appearance."

"Very well."

Walking up to me, Venus put her hands on both my cheeks and gave me a tame kiss on the lips.

"A little something extra. Goodbye and good luck. I hope you enjoy your new life. I will be watching over you."

As the soul of the man once known as Athanasius Canina left the space entering his newly born body, Venus was left alone sitting on her throne.

"Have you finished sending him off Venus?"

Soon after the soul left, a burly man with short black hair and a short peppered beard appeared.

"Yes father, It is done" (A/n: I know Venus is not his daughter in the traditional sense, but technically she is his daughter.)

Contrary to her cheerful tone and atmosphere Venus was now completely melancholic, her eyes lost their shine and her smile was still as beautiful as ever, but it gave a sad, heartbreaking feeling.

Caelus has long since known of his daughter's love for the mortal, as she has watched over him for several lifetimes. Even if he would never admit it. Having met the boy before, Caelus understands why she loves so and has already acknowledged him as his son-in-law.

"You know, I was talking to Jupiter before the boy reincarnated into a roman, and we made a bet. Don't ask what it was, but just know that thanks to that boy I won. And he now owes me a favor. I already have everything I want, so I could ask him to let you enter the same world as him, like yourself. The laws of that world would allow for your existence, you could become his goddess and make a familia. I mean, Knowing him, after meeting you he would never accept another as his god or goddess."

With a shaky voice as the light returned to her watery eyes, she hugged her father and stayed there. No words were needed between the two, as they stayed there in silence.

"Alright, I'll tell Jupiter what to do, but you should probably wait here and watch over him until he gets older, interfering with his childhood and development could serve to hinder him, wait until he is older to descend to the mortal realm."

"I was planning on that, thank you, dad."

"Hahaha, it's been eons since you called me that, hahaha. That alone was worth it. It feels better than seeing the face Jupiter made when he lost our bet, hahahah."

Unaware that he would soon be seeing Venus again, the soul of Athanasius Canina had just entered his newborn body.
