Cleansing Pool (Ch.17)

Weylyn stepped into the vast hall, her eyes first settling on the one person she detested the most... Emperor Vaeros.

Weylyn frowned slightly at the sight of him standing on the balcony looking down over the hall, regal and noble, his luxurious robes trailing behind him and his consort in waiting at his side.

Weylyn swallowed down her rage as she lowered herself to her knees along with the rest of the knights in waiting, bowing their heads low before the Emperor.

"Rise... the High Oracle shall proceed." Emperor Vaeros' domineering yet cold tone resounded through the quiet hall and the knights in waiting obeyed.

As Weylyn rose to her feet, for a brief moment her eyes met his, golden orbs meeting a pair of enchanting violet orbs that glowed mysteriously,

Weylyn immediately recognize the guilt that flashed through those violet orbs and her hands clenched into fists around her sword.

Weylyn diverted her gaze quickly, easing her tight grip on her sword to let her gaze wander over the hall.

The central attraction of the hall was the vast, clear and shallow pool glowing with rich magic,

This pool was the legendary cleansing pool from which a man could be reborn.

There was a thin pathway leading across the pool which was meant for the oracle, the knights in waiting were to venture into the pool itself.

Up ahead of the pool was a platform on which sword holders were placed and Weylyn's eyes immediately settled on the sword rack with the insignia of the House of Kalver.

The sword rack had ten holders, which was more than enough to carry the swords of the Seven Knights from House Kalver, inclusive of Weylyn.

"Within the pool, you shall place your burdens before the Creator and take up a new purpose, a purpose to walk the path of chivalry, to protect the people and to live and die for your liege." The High Oracle began,

"Offer your weapons to the Creator and step into the pool for cleansing." One of the High Oracle's attendants directed.

Weylyn stared down at the pool and lifted her gaze, her eyes widening when she once again saw a spectral Ronan kneeling within the pool at the very front.

Weylyn bit her lip to distract herself from the ache in her heart, her gazed fixed on the spectral Ronan, she stepped into the pool, wincing at the chilling cold temperature of the water.

The pool glowed brightly, the water coming up to just her knees, Weylyn wadded through the water, everything fading away once again and all she could see was Ronan.

Weylyn arrived at the front, stepping up to the platform, her robes dripping, she placed her sword down on the uppermost holder of the sword rack and then moved to the side to let the other Kalver knights place their swords down.

After they had all retreated, Weylyn also retreated back into the pool and lowered herself to her knees, the shimmering water of the cleansing pool now coming up to her waist.

And as she stared at the spectral Ronan who sat just at her side, her mind drifted down memory lane.
