The Bad Dream

Skye woke up in the middle of the night from a bad dream, she was sweating profusely and stood up from her bed. The events of the dream replayed in her mind as she got up to check up on sister and parents.

She looked over at Rose who was sleeping peacefully on her bed. Skye wanted to go over to their parents' room when she remembered that they were out. They had attended a distant relative's funeral which was out of town and wouldn't be coming back that same day.

Skye went over to the babysitter who was snoring away on the sleeping bag on the floor and tapped her gently.

"Please wake up,I had a nightmare about my parents and they were in big trouble,please let me speak to them." Skye pleaded.

"Let me sleep you little brat, your parents are gonna be here tomorrow. It was just a dream,it's not real. Now go back to bed and let me sleep." Vicky the babysitter rebuffed and pushed her away.

Skye although six,was a very sensitive child. She took things seriously and couldn't help but have an eerie feeling about that nightmare that washed a vivid anxiousness through her.

She couldn't sleep the whole night and stayed awake. When she tried sleeping again, the same nightmare recurred so she didn't dare shut her eyes.

In the morning, her premonition was found to be correct as it was aired that there was a ghastly car accident on the highway, leaving no survivors.

Among the deceased were her parents and little Skye became an orphan leaving her with four year old Rose as her companion.

The kids were taken by their great aunt who inherited their parents wealth. Aunt Gabby was a mean old woman who had not an ounce of sympathy in her. She was rude and wicked, earning her a long life of loneliness since people who knew her hated coming in contact with her.

Taking guardianship of the two girls,she involved them in child labour and felt them very little. She was always hitting them at will and treating the little girls like slaves.

Skye bore it all quietly for four years until Aunty Gabby tried to drown Rose over a trivial matter. Skye ran to the police and exposed the deeds of the horrible woman and she was arrested while the kids,having no other close relatives were taken to an orphanage.

Although it wasn't the best of places to be,Skye was happy they were free from their horrible great aunt's abuse. She lived contently in the orphanage for three years until the caretaker retired and a new person was brought.

This new caretaker molested most of the females, seeing that Skye was developing into a magnificent beauty, tried to molest her but Skye fought him off,injuring him in the process.

She ran out of the orphanage with her sister and began living on the streets, it was a hard life but it was what they had to bear as a price of being alive.
