…..
Red.
A color I never want to see her painted in. Ever since that kidnapping incident, I never wanted to see her in pain.
That's why I've been trying my fucking hardest to keep her away from danger. Yet, this woman seems to waltz her way through everything not giving a damn.
"Ryan…?"
"Ryan?" Soo Min repeats, her tone low with a hint of uneasiness.
As if his dark blue orbs staring intently at her were any indication, Soo Min tugs on his free arm as she meets his gaze.
"Can you let go of me, now?"
Doing exactly the opposite, Ryan tightens his embrace around the small of her back as if letting go meant a threat to her life.
"Mind telling me what you were doing standing at - I don't know - the edge of a fucking cliff."Ryan's calm yet threatening tone resonates in the air.
"W—What?" Her voice comes out barely as an audible whisper. While she has witnessed Ryan's rudeness and frustration, she had never been the subject of it.
Especially not this. What he's feeling right now runs deeper than just rage, it's more menacing as if everyone in his vicinity could die with just one look.
"I believe I asked you a question." He reminds her ever so casually.
"I was just trying to rescue someone. Which you would already know since it's part of my job." She said quietly because if she spoke any louder, she would be snapping at him.
"Soo Min." Just her name held more warning than should have been possible.
"Let me go. People still need to be saved."
"The only person that needs saving right now is you." From me. But he doesn't voice out the last part.
Wrapping on arm around her back and under her knees, he swiftly lifts her and carries her bridal style.
Soo Min stiffens in his arms, her fingers gripping the lapel of his beige trench coat.
"Ryan, stop it. Everyone's looking."
"And I should care about their opinions because…"
She opens her mouth to argue, then seems to think better of it and pursues it shut.
"You're my woman. Fucking mine. There's absolutely nothing wrong with me carrying my soon-to-be wife."
Soo Min stares back at him, unblinkingly.
...
"Thankfully, the shards are not too close to your vital organs." The nurse tends to Soo Min's shoulder blade using forceps to pluck out the glass pieces clinging to her flesh. "However, some pieces have dug in deep and there's a slight chance of an infection. If you start feeling any fever symptoms let me know."
Soo Min nods before getting up from the stool.
"And where do you think you're going?" Ryan asks, leaning against the side of the medical trailer, his arms crossed over his developed chest.
"To go back and help the others."
Ryan's gaze zeroes in on her bandaged shoulder, tapping his index finger on the side of his arm. The look in his eyes is dark, focused, and says a thousand words without him having to utter a sound.
Pushing off the side of the trailer, he walks towards her and grabs her by the elbow before pulling her close. He quickly removes his coat and drapes it around her shoulders. She stares at him with a quizzical look in her eyes.
"Your white coat is already soaked from the rain. You'll catch a cold at this rate." He tells her.
"What about you?"
He stares at me for a beat. "Are you warm?"
"Yeah. But thats because I'm wearing a coat." Your coat, dumbass.
"Its fine then." He flattens a palm at the small of her back. His masculine scent attacks her nose and his warmth shielding her from the harshness of the chillness in the wind.
"I've already spoken with the rescue team. They said most of the evacuation is complete and critical patients will be sent to the hospital. They said to leave the quake zone because there is a chance of another aftershock." Ryan's face turns grim just thinking about how if he was a second too late, he would've come to collect her corpse.
Soo Min nods, outweighing the cons of staying in the quake zone and where Ryan's concerns stem from.
She lifts a shoulder. "Then it can't be helped, I'll go back to the hospital then. There's an influx of patients so it'll be hard for them to handle alone.
"Not in that condition." Ryan speaks in a low voice.
Soo Min tries to pull away from him, but his iron grip forbids her from doing so. "That is the first and last time you try to pull away from me. And stop putting pressure on your shoulder."
"Then let me go." She hisses, twisting against him.
"Not in this life."
