…..
Around 3 am.
BUZZ! BUZZ!
A loud vibrating noise woke Soo Min up from the depths of her sleep. No matter how tired she was, her body would instantly wake up at the sound of that familiar noise.
From all those years in medical school and residency, the sound of her pager was distinct from everything else and would always send her into an alert mode.
Reaching over the bed side table, Soo Min checked the contents of the message and immediately frowned.
The alert of a pager was never good news, but she didn't expect things to be this bad.
Just as she tried to get out of bed, she felt something heavy restricting her actions. Turning her head sideways, her eyes landed on a firm hand enveloping her body, holding her in place.
Slowly, Soo Min lifted her head and looked up only to see the devilishly handsome man before him who was fast asleep.
The moonlight peaked through the curtains adding an alluring glow to Ryan's pristine face.
A soft smile broke out on Soo Min's face, a reason unbeknownst to her.
Carefully, she removed his hand - a task that was nearly impossible for he had such a strong grip - and got out of bed trying to make less noise as possible as she didn't want him to get up.
Grabbing her pager, phone and wallet, she quickly walked into the bathroom to change into a black slogan t-shirt and a pair of straight jeans.
She tied her hair into a high messy bun and washed her face with some cold water to stay awake.
PAGER: Code Yellow. Hospital staff report to skyline bridge.
From the contents of the message, Soo Min can anticipate the gravity of the situation.
Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, her head collided against the wall. Wait.. a wall? There wasn't any wall there and who would even place a wall a few feet from the bathroom door.
In fact, this was no wall at all. Soo Min eyes scanned the black sweater in front of her before looking up at the dazzling blue eyes of her fiancé.
"Y—You're awake?" Soo Min stood there stunned. Guess she wasn't as quiet as she thought.
"Well, there's no way I was about let my fiancé go to such a dangerous plan alone." Ryan spoke, disappointment flashed across his eyes.
Soo Min's eyes looked passed him to the news channel playing on the flatscreen. They were broadcasting the live situation at skyline bridge.
"I—um… I don't think that's a good idea. The situation isn't good and I'll be super busy attending the injured. So you should—"
"Then, that's more the reason for me to go." Ryan said, nonchalantly before intertwining his hand with hers and pulling her out of the bedroom.
…..
Skyline Bridge.
As soon they arrived, Soo Min's body froze at the scene in front of her. No matter how many patients she has seen and listened to recount their traumatic experiences, seeing things firsthand is always gut-wrenching.
There was destruction at every corner with emergency responders running back and forth, some carrying bodies and others equipment.
The bridge was burning up in flames. It wasn't the morbid heat she couldn't stand but rather the smoke that curled and crowded against her
lungs, slowly suffocating until her eyes watered.
She knew things would be bad, but… not so devastating.
Ryan looks at the woman next to him, who had been awfully quiet and still for sometime now that it was starting to worry him.
"Hey, are you alright?" He asked, his voice laced with concern that Soo Min did not fail to catch.
"Y—Yeah." She cleared her throat. At this moment, Soo Min pushed all her emotions into the farthest reaches of her mind. Right now, she was just a doctor and her priority was saving her patient.
