Chapter 55: Foreign Feelings

Ryan pulled the tray table forward and placed the food on it, before sitting next to Soo Min. He carefully blowed on the steaming hot soup before bringing it closer to Soo Min's mouth.

"Open your mouth." Ryan said.

Soo Min opened her mouth, with her eyes fixated on Ryan's oceanic eyes.

'It's only because you have inured you shoulder Soo Min. Yeah! That's the reason. There's nothing more to this. He's just helping you because he saved your life, nothing else.' She convinced herself.

For some reason, even that wasn't even enough to explain this fluttering feeling occurring in her heart. Not to mention the fact that her brain was still sorting to all the information to give her a satisfactory answer to why she even saved his life.

Was it just because of her duty as a doctor? Would she have done that if anyone else was in his place?

There was actually just one reasonable answer to all her questions, but it was not one that she would accept.

"Is it good?" Ryan asked.

Soo Min swallowed the mushroom soup and nodded.

"Actually, I didn't know what you liked. At first, I planned to just get you one of everything from the cafeteria, but then they said that they could only give you what was listed on the diet chart provided by the doctor." Ryan explained.

"You we're going to get me one of everything on the menu?" Soo Min asked in disbelief.

When Ryan nodded, she couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"What? Why are you laughing? I'm serious!" Ryan firmly stated.

Wiping the tears in her eyes, Soo Min tried to control her laughter. "Do you even realize what you just said?"

Ryan's facial expression clearly gave away how confused he was. All that did was make Soo Min lose her control and she threw her head back, laughing uncontrollably.

He didn't know why, but seeing her laugh so carefree he could not help but smile too.

After a few minutes of continuous laughing, Soo Min somehow managed to calm herself down, but when she saw something unexpected when her eyes landed on Ryan's smiling face.

'Mr. Stone Face is actually smiling?' Soo Min mused.

When Ryan locked his with her, his smile slowly faded but the glow in his eyes never left. His hand made his way towards Soo Min's face, before stopping near her mouth.

Her breath become shallow and her heartbeats became inconsistent, when she felt his thumb brush past the corner of her lips.

"You had a little something there." Ryan said as he showed the tiny drop of soup on the tip of his thumb.

"Oh." That was all Soo Min managed to say, without giving away her nervousness.

Amidst this awkward air enveloping them, the ringing of a phone was heard.

It was Soo Min's phone. They both turned their heads to look at the phone screen, but gave mixed reactions.

When Soo Min saw Noah's name on the phone, she simply reached for her phone to answer the call, but when Ryan saw his name he immediately frowned.

"Hello—" Soo Min answered.

"PARK SOO MIN! HOW COULD YOU NOT TELL ME WHEN SOMETHING THIS BIG HAPPENED? WHO IS THAT BASTARD? I WILL KILL HIM! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE SECURITY AT YOUR HOSPITAL? WERE THEY SLEEPING WHEN THIS HAPPENED? HOW ARE YOU? IS THERE ANYTHING SERIOUS—" Noah blasted from the other end of the call.

Soo Min moved the phone slightly away from her ear, while Ryan watched her and listened in on the conversation because of how loud Noah was.

"Calm down, will you? I'm fine. And for the reason I didn't tell you was because of this. I knew how you would act. Besides, I'm fine now right. I don't know who that man was, but he's in prison now, so the law will deal with him! Don't bother getting your hands dirty with this, okay?" Soo Min calmly said.

"FINE. BUT IF HE TRIES TO HURT YOU AGAIN, I WONT SPARE HIM AND WHERE IS THAT SO CALLED CAPABLE FIANCÉ OF YOURS, HUH?" Noah asked.

Due to how loud he was, Ryan heard him and immediately frowned, yet he couldn't help feel guilty because Soo Min got hurt by protecting him. Although Noah's words were harsh, it was true.

"What exactly do you mean by that, Noah?" Soo Min frowned as her voice turned cold to an unpleasant extent.

"I'm just saying the truth, Soo Min. He—"

"I chose to stand in front of him because I wanted to protect him. This was not Ryan's fault at all. In fact, he was the one who came to save me when I was taken as a hostage. If it wasn't for him, I don't even know if I'd be able to talk to you like this. And for the record, I chose to stand in front of the gun. When he didn't think once about his own life before rushing into the hospital, what makes you think I would?" Soo Min questioned.
