Chapter 7

We found a cave which was big enough for us to spend the night. We had to light a fire as the environment was getting cold. Max collected some wood while I cleaned the place for us to sleep, with Lisa. We had some blankets which we took when we sleep at Max's house. However it was a hard night with mosquitoes. During our sleep I heard a noise. I was too afraid to see what that was alone. So I called Max. Although he was in a deep sleep I woke him up. Then he agreed to go out and check what the noise was. We both came outside and I was standing behind Max, holding his hand tight. Max did not forget to take a wood stick to his hand.

It was all quiet and calm outside but I knew that someone was there. Suddenly we noticed something moving behind a tree. Max and I looked each other's faces. My hand was shivering. Slowly we reached the tree and Max made sure that he was holding the wood stick tightly and we both looked behind the tree at once. But surprising both of us there was nothing. But I was sure that I saw something and Max saw the shadow of someone too. It was mysterious. "We have to be more careful and we must stay in alert. One of us needs to stay awake all night. I'll stay awake you can go to sleep with Lisa" said Max in a caring voice. But I did not want to sleep at all. "No Max, I'll stay awake too, I can't sleep too." Max was about to disagree me but I interrupted him and didn't let him say that. "It doesn't matter that you want me to sleep. I'm going to stay awake." I said. Finally he agreed and we talked until the sun rose. Max's jokes and my laugh helped both of us to stay awake.

Lisa came to us and she was puzzled about what had happened last night. Knowing that Max is going to tell her the whole story I said "We could not sleep the whole night, so we stayed awake" interrupting Max. He looked at me and I simply smiled and asked Lisa to get the blankets as we need to leave. After Lisa went back to get the blankets, Max asked me why I lied to her. "Let's stay silent for now she will be scared if we tell this to her" I replied to Max and he realized that I was correct. Lisa came back with the blanket on her hand. And asked, "Shall we go now?" and Max and I replied her saying yes. Then we started our journey again. The next problem was the breakfast. Yesterday our whole three meals were covered just with apples. "We have to find something different from apple for breakfast. Unless I'm going to die." Said Max and Lisa laughed loudly. After her loud laugh we heard a breath that made me believe we are going to face a dangerous animal because of Lisa's laugh.

Lisa had awakened someone in the forest and Max asked both of us to stay silent until he checks what it was. Max walked towards the side which we heard the breath. Sometime passed and I asked Lisa to stay there until I see what had happened to Max. Then when I was about to take the first step a voice screamed saying "RUN!!!" Then Max came running towards us. And then I saw a large creature that I have never seen before. It was larger than my house which I live. Lisa and I understood that we must run to survive and all of us ran as fast as we could. It was hard to run faster because of the trees which were covering our way but somehow we all ran faster. But we could not hear the noise of that creature. Then Max turned back to see whether that animal was following us. But there was nothing! Although we were running, no one was following us.

Any of us were not able to talk as we were running so faster for more than ten minutes. After we were able to speak I asked from Max what happened. But he had no idea about that. Lisa's face seemed to be so much scared. "We don't have time to waste. We must continue walking. And don't forget, these things are testing us. We need to be brave and Lisa don't scream or talk loudly" said Max. that time it was a warning to Lisa. I hugged her and asked her not to be worry. As I felt that she is a bit nervous and her childish behavior showed me that she does not like to see her brother in an angry mood. And after few seconds Max turned to me and said, "And you Shalie, don't worry I'm always with you and stay in alert. Maybe the witch wants to scare us. Be brave!" I agreed with him and said yes.
