Chapter 12 Entering the City and Evolution

Ajax finally realized his level was already maxed out. Killing many of those bandits gave him more exp than he expected and he leveled up some skills too. As Ajax was still looking at his stats, he felt that it was odd seeing his exp points was maxed out not increasing his level. As he begin to ponder again about what to do with this, a 'ding' sound resounded in his head which made Ajax look at the notification in excitement.

Holding back his excitement as much as he could, Ajax sat down on a nearby tree with his eyes closed and sword in front of him. He wanted to first look at his evolution path if he had one and right now was not a good time as he did not want to just leave this group and go to a safe place because he could lose this opportunity. Suddenly, a figure came jumping down landing right in front of Ajax. It was Tim, covered in blood with a large pouch and bloody sword in hand.

" What are we going to do now" asked Tim.

" Put away your sword and sit next to me, we'll find out soon enough" said Ajax.

Ajax already knew that Tim had killed those men, given their exhaustion level and injuries, it should've been a simple task to take down the remaining bandits. As Tim did as he asked, the soldiers still staring at Ajax doing nothing to them, they finally calmed down just enough began treating their wounds and the wounds of their madam. As the situation has finally calmed down enough, an hour has already gone by, the women of the Walker family finally recovered a little from her wounds and was able to walk. She slowly got up with a pale face and started walking towards Ajax with Brock by her side with his sword ready to attack and her daughter not far from behind her.

She eventually made her way towards Ajax shortly afterwards and said, " Thank you for saving us, as a noble family and seeing your high intelligence, despite being a tier 1 beast, is there a reason why you interfered and saved us?"

" Tier 1 beast? what is that?" thought Ajax. " Take me... with you" replied Ajax as he pointed towards the city.

"You want to come into the city? Why" asked the pale but beautiful lady.

" Want more... knowledge" replied Ajax truthfully.

If there is one thing he knew about humans in which ever world they may be, if they have a city as large as this, there will always be a large amount of resources of knowledge whether it is about the world or about beasts and perhaps he may encounter something new which would make it easier for him to travel later on in the future. Thinking of whether or not she should let the beast follow in, with her status it would be a simple task.

She looked at Ajax and said, " It is a simple task regarding your request, but you will have to stay with us because our Kingdom does not yet fully accept beasts with high intelligence".

Thinking about her answer, he found it was better than nothing as her status should be fairly high and it would be better for him to gain better information this way. " Okay... take me with you" replied Ajax after some thought.

Seeing that he agreed, she was extremely curious about Ajax and how he was so smart. She was also surprised at the appearance of the young orangutan that was by his side and he also seemed pretty strong. She decided to put the thought at the back of her head and would first focus on getting into the city first before asking any question.

" Wait for a bit while we gather our things, then we can head out before it gets too dark, you should also prepare your things as well" she said then walked back to her men.

Nodding his head, Ajax told Tim to get his spear and his bow and arrow that still on top of the tree branch that he jumped down from. After half an hour, everyone had gathered together with their things and began to set out. Ajax was invited in the carriage and went inside as it would be easier since he may be stopped and asked for questions by the city guards. Ajax didn't want Tim to be inside because he wanted him to help guard the carriage during their travel. As the he entered the carriage the first thing that he noticed was that the inside was pretty spacious. there were two seats one on each side able to hold about four people sitting down on each side. In between there was enough leg room for a person to walk in between without interfering with one another's leg room. Ajax chose to sit in front of the two women from the Walker family while Brock chose to sit down next to him. Brock chose to come into the carriage too, with the permission of Lady of the Walker family, because he still felt that the ape was too dangerous since they did not know what it was capable of. After constant whining, Brock was allowed to come inside with the intention of protecting them. On the two sides of him, Ajax could see a slight opening with a dark curtain covering the opening which allowed proper air circulation to flow into the carriage and out. It also allowed one to glance towards the outside. While inside, it felt as though a car was driving onto a driveway that was filled with gravel and small rocks, bumpy but still manageable.

"hello, my name is is Mary Walker, I never got the chance to thank you myself " said the young girl sitting by her mother's side.

As Ajax looked at young girl who introduced herself, he nodded and replied, " Ajax"

When everyone heard him talking again, they were still surprised that the ape before actually understood what they were talking about and even had a name.

" Ajax huh, how did you learn how to speak our language, where you always this smart, how did you become so strong..." Immediately spoke again to Ajax. She had not seen any beasts being able to speak their language. Even though her mother had told her before, that when beasts reach a certain strength, they were able to evolve and communicate with others a lot better.

Being bombarded with questions, Ajax answered very honestly, " Captured and killed some humans who were hunting fellow apes. I was always smart and hunted to become stronger".

Seeing that the ape before them was getting better and better at speaking, they grew even more astonished and Brock was even speechless, while the curiosity of Lady Walker was growing more and more curious.

Amazed by the answer she was given, Mary started to ask more and more about him in which, Ajax responded and asked some more questions about the city he was going in. After half an hour of just talking and was reaching the city gates, a 'ding' was heard in his mind.

"hmm I don't have just to meet the city leader, unless... the lady in front of me is the leader, or are there other certain conditions that I can meet to accomplish this task?" thought filled with questions as he saw that he needed just one more civilization to discover to get his inventory.

As the carriage and entourage reached the city gates, they stopped and informed the guards of their identity, they also vouched for the young orangutan with them and lied saying that it was their beast that they bought in the black market. Hearing their identity, the city guards immediately gave way and allowed their entry through the gate and into the city.

The carriage and entourage continued to head deeper and deeper into the city while passing by many shops and food stalls. The city had many houses and building structures that were also made of hard stone bricks. They varied in many sizes with most have roofs like his past life and some didn't and had a balcony like roof, that was open and one can see few people building a garden or simply looking at the sky that was beginning to dim. As they continued to pass by, Ajax was curious about some of the things that he saw and was also extremely excited because of how this scene and structure was just like so many novels and anime's he saw where the mc transmigrated into a different world. Half an hour has already passed by as they reached a huge manor. The huge manor was protected by a barrier of an 10 foot stone walls with long metal spikes pointing out. In between each metal spike was decorations of flowers also made of metal. In the middle of the stone walk was thick shiny metal door that had two circular handles hanging loose and low enough for human reach. There was an engraving of a large griffin fighting a snake that had part of its body wrapped around it.

" This manor is simply to cool" thought Ajax has was extremely excited but only showed a curious expression as he looked around. When the manor guards saw who arrived, immediately opened up allowing them through. As they entered, the two women and Brock went out first with Ajax leaving the carriage last. When the manor guards saw the ape emerging from the carriage they immediately took out their weapons and prepared to attack but was quickly stopped by Brock before he explained of the incident with the bandit.

As Ajax walked out, he saw a huge field that was filled with all kinds of flowers, it can also be seen a first glance that it was was well kept as there were no weeds in sight. On the right side, there was an open area without any flowers and there was also a variety of weapons racked to the side. He looked in front of him where he and the others were walking towards was a huge mansion. The mansion appeared to be 40 feet tall and 60 feet wide with many other stone structure built connecting the mansion all together. As he entered the mansion, the two women were greeted with many butlers and maids that varied in ages. He saw a huge set of stairs in the middle of the open area which led to a balcony to the back and circled around making a second floor which was also filled with many rooms on either side. The inside of the mansion was filled with many decorations of vases and pictures of people, old and young, and of griffins everywhere. He saw that there were many stones located at different parts of the mansion lighting up the whole inside mansion.

As he continued to observe his surroundings, he was interrupted when Lady Walker said, " Since its already dark and I am still injured, I am going to tend to my injuries and head to sleep. Brock, go and report to my husband about the incident that occurred and inform him about our new guests. Mary go show them to their room and have a maid tend to their needs".

" Yes Lady Walker" replied Brock as he walked away after being formed of his task.

" Yes mother" replied Mary as she told Ajax and Tim to follow her in which case Tim was still awed by what he was seeing when he had entered the city and mansion.

As the three began walking up the stairs and along the pathway to their room, Ajax and Mary was still having slight conversation about each other. As the three approached the large door and entered the room, Ajax and Tim saw a large King size bed with comfortable and fluffy bedding. There appeared to be a desk in one corner and and full size mirror not far from it. On the other corner you could see a large drawer that can be filled with clothes and personal items. There was a large window where one can see behind the mansion leaving an open view of trees and the dimming sky.

" This will be your guys' room, there will be a maid posted not far from here in which she will help you in case that you have any needs" said Mary as she watched the two looking at the room that they were staying in.

As the two put down their stuff near the drawer, Ajax nodded towards Mary, indicating that he understood. Seeing the nod, Mary nodded back and left the room, heading towards her room and also going to sleep as today has been too eventful with the bandits and meeting the abnormal ape.

As the two was left alone in the room, Ajax said, " Go to sleep, I'm going to do something real quick" and left Tim alone in the room as he exited through the window and headed into an area where no one can be seen. Before Tim could say anything, he was already left alone and just climbed into bed and slept soundly as dealing with the bandits and traveling with them was also exhausting for him.

As Ajax doubled his surroundings, he brought up his status and decided to evolve here.

" Yes" answered Ajax.

[ Because of multiple skills learned, Host has three options to evolve to]

The system showed three options and showed their descriptions.

Human: Because of host's lifestyle like skills, Host can evolve into a Human. A Human's arms are shorter than an ape's and also contains a lot less strength. They do however possess extreme dexterity and has high adaptability. Evolving to a human will grant host with an additional +10 in intelligence and +5 in agility.

Martial ape: Because of host's high fighting skills, Host has a chance to evolve into a martial ape. Martial apes are known for their great strength as they increase in size and power. Evolving into a Martial ape will grant host with an additional +10 in strength and a +5 in defense.

Mage ape: Because of Host magic skill, host has a chance to evolve into a mage ape. Mage apes are know for their intelligence and usage of magic. Evolving into a Mage ape will grant host an additional +10 in Endurance and a +5 in intelligence.

Seeing the options before him, he was greatly surprised at the option of being able to evolve into a human. He was also astonished at what the additional benefits it can bring to him when evolving into the different types of categories. Although he was extremely tempted to test the mage ape, he chose to not choose it because he he had only one magic skill right now and felt that it was not as useful to him at the moment. He was then left to two other options, human or martial ape. After pondering for a while, he decided to go for martial ape. The main reason was because of the implications that can be cause by suddenly turning into a human. First there was his tribe back at home whom he would eventually have to go back and visit again. There was also the fact of staying with Tim who might cause a commotion from seeing Ajax into a human. The last reason was because he was reborn into this world as an ape. He had already lived his life as a human and frankly in this world where he don't know the strength of the apex predator, he would rather have more strength and didn't mind being a ape. Therefore, he chose to evolve into a martial ape as he would be granted with more strength and defense. He had already knowledgeable about humans and their adaptability, I mean look at him, he was a ape and was doing fine because of his past life as a human.

As Ajax chose martial ape, he immediately felt the heat in his body heating up to a frightening degree. He then felt his bones and muscle breaking apart as he felt the tremendous pain and struggled to hold on to his conscious. As his body continued to to break apart and mend itself, Ajax had finally fell unconscious.
