Chapter 34: Helemoira

Once I had finished with Pelleas, he went downstairs to fetch us some food. I took the opportunity to pray to Geien.

"I know you were watching," I mused softly as I lit some incense. "I felt you, just for a moment."

I looked around, waiting for something – anything. But there was no sign of him to be seen or heard. Pushing away from the small altar in my chambers, I crossed the space to my bed and crawled into it. It was still early in the evening but my body felt as if it had gone ten rounds with a demon.

The blankets on my bed were too warm and inviting to resist. I pulled them up to my chin over my naked body and closed my eyes, hoping I would not fall asleep before Pelleas returned with food like he promised.

I heard a sound and smiled against the pillow. "What did you bring me?" I sat up and looked around the room.
