Chapter 2: Ambrosia

A person wearing a coat drenched in the rain came inside. He started to look around and noticed that there were no other customers aside from him. He immediately hanged his wet coat in the hanger and sat down in the counter.

"I didn't notice it was raining outside," smiled Steve towards the man in front of him.

"Well, I just came from the other town and it was raining there," admitted the man. "A bottle of beer please."

Steve handed a beer to the man and started to think of what the other man said. 'The other town is 10 kilometers away from here. Surely he'll be a little bit dry when he came here,' thought Steve and talked towards the man, "You sure travel fast if you came from the other town."

"I wouldn't be wet from the rain if it wasn't for those meddlesome creatures," the man complained then took a sip from his beer. After taking a sip, he started to look towards Steve.

Steve started to feel awkward with the man staring at him. "You know it's rude to stare at people," complained Steve.

"I'm sorry," apologized the man, "But you know it is rare to see a ghost being a bartender and is still able to retain his personality."

"I get that all the time from my customers," said Steve. "Another beer," asked Steve.

"Sure," said the man as he received the beer. "How long were you there," asked the man.

"About a year."

"Hmmm… that's quite long," comment the man. "Anyway, thanks for the beer. Sadly I don't have any money with me, so I'll just leave this as my payment."

A bottle appeared out of nowhere and the man placed in the counter and left the building with his coat.

Steve wasn't able to speak when he saw what the man just did. Then he immediately looked at the bottle in the counter. When he saw the contents of the bottle he was astonished.

"This is ambrosia," exclaimed Steve.

Ambrosia is the food of the gods, typically the Greek and Roman gods. What Steve got is the nectar of the ambrosia, and it is actually hard to get it. To think that he was able to get this for two bottles of beer.

"To actually think that a god has visited my bar," chuckled Steve as he disposed the two empty bottles of beer.

Steve held the bottle of ambrosia delicately like a new born baby and eventually started to sink down the earth.

In the cold dark room, Steve is preparing the beverages that he will serve to his customers when the bar's door opened and a person came in. "It is quite early, I haven't prepared yet," said Steve while smiling to the person that came.

"It's alright I could just wait right here," said the person. Surprisingly it was the person that came the other night. The one that gave the ambrosia to Steve.

Steve just continued to work when he immediately asked a question to the person seating in the counter, "How would I address you?"

"Hermes," the man simply stated.

"To think that god Hermes would visit this rundown place last night," said Steve while smiling.

"Well curiosity killed the cat. I just want to check this place out since I don't remember a bar here last time," Hermes said while grinning.

"Well, I just started this business around two months," said Steve as he continue preparing the drinks.

"I see. Still a ghost that can retain a personality like you. It is still quite rare," said Hermes while looking at Steve.

Steve just smiled at what Hermes said, then he looked at the clock and faced Hermes with a smile on his face. "Well then, Lord Hermes, what would you like tonight?"

"A bottle of beer that I had last night," Hermes replied.

Steve went and put a bottle of beer in front of him. "Enjoy."

Hermes smiled and drink it slowly relishing the taste. A few minutes later Hermes finished drinking all of the contents in the bottle then stood up. "Well thank you. That beer tasted good."

"Thank you for the compliments," said Steve with a smile on his face. Hermes place his hand on the counter then removed it. When he removed his hand, a dollar appeared on the counter.

"Keep the change Steve. I'm off. A lot of package to deliver tonight," Hermes turned around and walked towards the door.

"Goodbye, Lord Hermes," Steve bade farewell then started to put away the empty bottle and the money on the counter. "Now that I think about it, Hermes is a god, why didn't he just conjured some money to pay for those beers last night," Steve thought as put the money and the beer away.

Suddenly the door opened and Steve thinking expression turned into a smile. He smiled towards the person that was coming to the counter. "Hello Emily. It's nice to see you're doing fine."

Emily slumped on the chair and almost shouted, "Give me your strongest alcohol here!"

Steve got a glass and a bottle of alcohol, filled the glass with some ice cubes then poured the alcohol until the glass is half filled. He got another bottle and opened it. When it was opened, a rusty smell came out of it. He poured the contents on the glass till it was quarter full, took a stirrer and stirred it.

Steve then placed the bottle in front of Emily, "Here's a glass of a Bloody Mary. Hope you enjoy it Emily."

Emily happily drank it and started to complain to Steve while Steve just float there and listened to her complain all night.
