Chapter 1: My First Dollar

"Father, look," King Veyron's eyes were quickly snatched by the outburst of his son. "Look at what I found!" Adrian stood in front of him, hair a mess, hands dirty, and clothing in complete shambles. The only thing that looked somewhat presentable on him, was his eyes. His eyes were the world's pretty gift to princes like him. Something his mother passed on before she died. his hair reeked a similar resemblance to her as well. A dark brown, almost black field of hair swept its way over his head down to his shoulders.

"What is it Adrian, what did you find?" The man Question only invoked a small smile to form as he revealed what lay buried beneath the confines of his grasp. What lay inside was a pretty caterpillar. The small boy began to slightly giggle as the Cobalt colored insect began to wiggle back and forth to look for something to adhere to.

"Don't you think it's beautiful?"

"Why yes, yes it is Andy." The father smoothed his hands over the boy's head as he continued to humor him. "Do you want to know a fun fact about them?" His voice got more high pitched as he lowered himself to be the same size as the other. Since they were royalty, Adrian and his father usually had an entire garden to themselves. They would spend seconds, minutes, hours studying the different bugs, birds, and other wildlife that they only had access to.

"Yes! Of course I do." His eyes skyrocketed with the possibility of information this thing could do. "Can it fly? Oh, does it have a symbol in its stomach? What does it do?" Adrian watched as his father's eyes then lowered, totally flattened out of excitement as he looked towards the single guard's man that stood in the room.

"Hey, tell you what," Still holding the same stoic face, he gently reached for Adrian's treasure as he spoke. "I'll hold onto this and I'll tell you what it means tomorrow." His suggestion only derived a face of aggravation from his son.

"Why do we need to wait for tomorrow when we got right now?" Tears filled his eyes as he looked for something else to steal his father's attention. I could run into the bushes. He always follows me there. No, he seems serious this time. "Give me 'em back if you won't tell me. I caught him, I deserve to know." But arguing against his old man was futile. In the end Mr. Wigglesworth, Adrian's new name for him, was sent with his father, while he was sentenced to time out in his room. Even though he tried to go out fighting, his mighty kicks were nowhere near the strength of multiple maids and butlers that he had seen his entire life. I hate this. Adrian huffs to himself as he watches the afternoon slowly change into the purply dark sky that he was so fond of. Every time I catch something, he takes it. My room would be full of friends by now. Not Wigglesworth. He's so cool, I won't let him get taken. Adrian squinted his eyes making sure he would fall asleep before he could complete the heist he had made out for himself.

Adrian's mind bounced back and forth as he tried to decipher who was going up and down the hallways. It soon became a thought that he began to associate each passing as a different person. The light tiptoes belong to Agnus, she always tried to sneak some snacks after dark so her being up wasn't that unusual. The heavy and dark footsteps belong to General Juans. Adrian once heard he went around committing "adultery",but who knew what that meant. Lastly was his little sister, Viola for her twelve o'clock water before sinking back into her silk sheet. Now it was it, now it was his time. No one would suspect him being up by this time, so it seemed perfect. A chance for him to get Wiggles back, heck, maybe even the rest of his friends. Adrian smiled before sucking in the remaining essence of bravery.

"Time to rescue my friends."

The hallways at night seemed a lot more grim than previous. The tree made its appearance through its shadows and wind was just enough to send shivers down his spine. This is all for wiggles. He debated which hallway to go down before picking the one that had led to his father's study. His office resided in the west wing, on the opposite side of the kid's rooms. It was quiet on that side and had no entertainment for kids like them. All in all, it seems like the perfect place to smuggle some bugs. Adrian squinted his eyes before tip toe over top of the main stairs. There was no hiding this time. If he was on the east wing, he could say he was getting water, or maybe even wanted a quick snack. But on the left wing, he was nowhere near allowed there. He was usually always too messy, too loud, too much of a kid. Adrian cursed at himself in silence. Is that why? Is that why he won't let me keep my gifts, because I'm a kid? Tears of saddened anger wept over the boy. Well I won't be anymore. I'll be a man so I can keep Mr. Wigglesworth. A smile of determination wielded its way over his heart once again. Feeling confused, he decided to station himself for a little bit to think. I've never been over here before. Though, it has to look like the east wing right? As he began to ponder the landscape, the sound of children giggles was enough to break all of his reality.

What was that? Why is it loud over here? Is it supposed to be quiet? His once determined heart now sunk back into the fear he once had. He knew he had to go see what it was, it was other kids was it not? He should probably tell them to go back home. This was breaking and entering, you know. Or maybe, he could make friends. People he could finally hang out with instead of his dad. King Veyron, was a bad playmate, but someone who always stole your toys at the end of the day wasn't someone you could hang around forever. Adrian peeked around the corner to see what the noise was all about.

"Dad"

What lay in front of him was his father, King Veyron with a copious amount of bugs and other children. Each of the kids still had a smile on their face until they realized who stood out there. "What are you doing with my stuff! It's mine!" Feeling another wave of tears well up in his eyes he began to run toward the corridor that connected the two wings.

"Adrian!" The hard sound of footsteps began to make a palpable appearance behind him, but he didn't turn around. He didn't want to look the man that betrayed him in the eyes. "For the love of God, look at me, boy." The King's deep voice echoed through the entire castle as he quickly snatched up his son to face him.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Adrian started to throw his usual tantrum in the hallway. Surely their behavior causes multiple people to wake up during the middle of the night.

"Why do you feel the need to act so childish all the time?"

"Why did you give the other kids MY stuff? I earned them, they didn't! I-"

"Because that's what a king does!" The sentence alone was enough to make the little boy freeze. "A GOOD king makes sure that EVERYONE is treated fairly, not just because of wealth or opportunity." Everyone? Everyone includes me too. Why can't I have my own father? Why do I have to share? They don't! All they do is take. Take and never give back.

"I'll never understand you." He shrugged himself off from his father and ran his way out of the crowd of people who went to snoop around.

"You're starting to sound just like your mother." was the last thing he heard his dad mumble before running down his own hallway.
