Chapter 33

Chapter 33

Johanna's POV

Johanna couldn't believe her mom and dad was letting her do this. She would've never thought a day like this would come, a day when she was going to be the one in the interrogation room with her mom trying to nail a bad guy. She walked behind her mom towards the interrogation room, she knew that if something was going to happen her mom would protect her and if she felt creeped out her mom had already made her promise to tell her.

Her mom opened the door and Johanna walked in behind her. Her mom stopped and looked at the chairs by the table where the man, who's name was Ronald Hawk, sat across and waited to be further interrogated. He didn't look like a bad guy according to Johanna, he looked like a normal middle-aged man who could be anyone. He didn't have any tattoos, at least non visible. Her mom let the way to the chairs and sat down. She gave Johanna a look which told her to sit down beside her.

"What is a girl doing in here?" the man asked and looked confused at Johanna.

"She's mostly hear to listen..." her mom started.

"She's your daughter isn't she?" the man cut her off.

Johanna looked at the man with wide eyes, how could he know that?

"I can see the resembles, so don't even try to deny it. What is she truly doing in here?" the man said and looked at her mom with a questioningly look.

"I'm asking the questions here, pal. You have nothing to do with her, so stop asking questions you won't have answers to" her mom snapped.

He smiled and shook his head.

"Why do you even care? Is it because you would never let your own daughter in a room with a criminal inside it?" Johanna asked and she felt her mom's eyes on her.

Johanna decided not to look at her mom, cause if she did she might loose confident, and she didn't want to look insecure.

"How do you know I have a daughter?" the man asked and his eyes were on Johanna.

"It's written all over you, you're both concerned about me but I can also see you don't care about me at all. That makes me think you have a child and the concern tells me it's a girl, plus you just confirmed it, I didn't even have to push to get that out of you" Johanna said and Ronald looked at her with wide eyes.

She knew her mom had the same surprised and wide eyes but she still wouldn't look at her.

"Ok, mini-detective, so why are you here and why did you bring up my daughter?" Ronald asked and Johanna could hear the change of respect in his voice.

"Well, my mom and her friends tell me you have murdered a man, Jacob Collins, and I happen to know and be best friends with his son. So, you know that boy you hired two guys to kidnap?"Johanna asked and when she saw Ronald flinch she continued. "That's right, Gale Collins, he was kidnapped right in front of my eyes, and when I tried to find him, cause that's what friends are for, I got captured as well. If you're so concerned about having a girl in the same room as a cuffed criminal, then think of how it was for me to be cuffed by your men and not having anyone covering my back as my mom does now".

Ronald looked at her with wide eyes, he was definitely surprised by the way she talked to him and by the detective-way she sounded. She couldn't see her mom but she guessed she had about the same expression.

"So, how would you have felt if something similar happened to daughter's best friend and she decided to help out? What if she got kidnapped and cuffed so that her wrists hurt?" Johanan asked and without really doing it she glanced at the wrist she had had the handcuff on.

She layed her hand on the table and removed the shirt a little for him to see the red line around her wrist. She heard her mother gasp a little. Ronald did too, and Johanna looked at him.

"So how is it now? Are you the one responsible to my terrible experience or can I trust you had to do with this?" Johanna asked and she let tears rolling down her cheek.

They were fake of course, but neither Ronald or her mom knew that. Ronald looked down at his own cuffed hands. It looked like he was thinking, like he concidered what to do. Johanna was about to give up when he finally looked into her eyes, still filled tears.

"I did it" his voice cracked.

"What?" Johanna said with a small voice.

"I killed Jacob Collins, I hired the two guys who hurt you. I'm sorry" he said and looked down again.

"Why did you do it?" Johanna asked and ignored her mom's gaze which probably was there to tell her to stop, that it was over.

"Because he was dealing drugs for me, I didn't have enough money to buy my little princess everything she wanted, that's why I started dealing drugs, that's why I killed Jacob since he didn't deliver the package in time, the money was delayed and I needed them to keep our house" he said and Johanna could see the shame in his eyes when he looked at her.

"I can't forgive you, but hopefully your own daughter will some day" Johanna said and stood up.

She looked at her mom and she looked at her with shock. Johanna started to walk out of the interrogation room and her mom was soon behind her.

"Johanna" her mom said and Johanna turned around with a wide smile on her face.

She wiped away the fake tears and couldn't help the pride which took over her body.

"Why didn't you tell me about your wrist? Wait, didn't you just broke down and cried?" her mom asked confused and Johanna giggled.

Her dad, Esposito, Ryan, Lanie and Gates came out from the observation room and looked at them. They had gotten out at the exact moment so they had heard her mom's question. Lanie had tears in her eyes and was also suprised by the smile Johanna had on her face. The others just looked at her with concern in their eyes, they had bought her little act.

"No, you see, this" Johanna said and held up her wrist. "This is just make-up, look" she said and licked her thumb and started rubbing away the red line on her wrist. "And these" she said and pointed to her dried tears "they're just fake" she smiled.
