" Did you enjoy the lunch party with Raymond" mom asked.
I rinsed my hand and wiped my hands using a kitchen towel, we just ate lunch with Raymond and Helen.
" Hmm I think I was too quiet during the meal earlier".
" You think?.....you were so quiet that I doubted if it was really my daughter at the table.
You have been wanting to meet with him but when your wish was granted you were weirdly quiet and I had to do all the talking." Mom said as she paused doing the dishes and looked up at me.
" What is wrong Rachel....are you all right." Mom asked as she placed her palm on my face.
" Am ok mother....I just don't know what's awaiting me I'm unsure of it all".
" What do you mean by that ....you are unsure about your relationship with Raymond?."
" You're twenty six now Rachel you aren't a kid anymore.
if you're unsure there are other guys out there looking for a pretty lady👰 like you".
" Mom you shouldn't say that of course I'm not planning a breakup, we just need a private conversation."
" What sort of privacy is that again....he is your boyfriend for goodness sake just be in control".
" Ok mom...no need for the relationship talk because you suck at it."
I said and we both laughed and later joined Raymond and Helen in the sitting room watching TV.
" I think we should take our leave now " . Raymond said
" Ok that works for me too " Helen added.
" So when should I be expecting a visit again " my mom smiling.
" I will check my schedule and let you know " Raymond responded.
" Let me walk you out " I finally said a word.....as I observed his facial expressions.
" Really can you do that....I don't want to get you all stressed out." Raymond said.
" It's not a big deal I can manage" I said with a short smile.
I stood up from the couch and walked them to the car, it was as silent as a graveyard and it seemed to take forever before we reached the car.
" I guess this is good bye Raymond, well for now "...
" Raymond hand over the car key I'll wait in the car " Helen said going further into the car .
It was funny looking at Raymond and Helen hitch same ride.
" I have to go...I have some things I need to do before the end of today".
" So I guess that's good bye " I said as he walked away.
He turned to face me.
" What do you say about dinner tomorrow night" Raymond said and I felt a beam of light shine in me.
" Dinner is okay.... Will you come pick me up.
I said as I walked closer to him and gave him a light kiss.
" Have a good night rest Rachel ....and I really hope you get well soon"he said and gave me a wink.
I walked in and saw mom sipping from a cup of red wine .
" Going for a date without your mom's permission.... you're an adult now Rachel"
" Mom I was going to ask you, Raymond just wants us to spend some time together and I couldn't refuse him cause that's exactly what I want.
" Ok darling no need to be stressed out .... I'm not stopping you go have fun .....
But don't forget to get an extra key.....
Cause I lock my doors.
" No problem mom can I go now I need some rest....we will talk about the keys later..."
I said as I wentbto bed .
( RAYMOND and HELEN POV. )
" Babe, what just happened what sort of silly display was that just now "
" What do you mean by display...for goodness sake Rachel is your best friend have you forgotten."
" To hell with her I don't care if she is my sister or best friend all I care now is my boyfriend.
And that is you Raymond I don't want to lose you to Rachel" .
" Just listen to yourself those words should be coming from Rachel not you.
She isn't even aware of the fact that her precious boyfriend and her so call best friend are engaged.
We betrayed her....it only been four years and we are already engaged.
I feel so guilty for doing this to her Helen, I feel so guilty.
" What do you mean by you feel guilty.
Are you regretting our relationship.
Are you for real Raymond .....ok you had better know we are in this together and we are not ending this relationship under any circumstances.
Just because of your ex.
" Helen ..... Rachel shoulo find out about us."
" And why not ....she deserves to know, so she could know her place in your life.
" Have you forgotten the fact that you were In a relationship with my brother Nelson.
Whathat about him, he is coming back home soon.
" I don't give a fuck about Nelson or Rachel I just care about us Raymond.
" You can't let go of usbecause Rachel is back.
Remember your promise me two years ago after my mom's death.
Of course Helen I remember promising your mother to always be there for you.
That was the main reason why we got engaged to keep that promise alive.
" Don't get worried ..I love you Helen that I why I want our relationship to be a secret from Rachel.
Let her recover first then we can break the news about our relationship to her.
We shouldn't cause her more harm.
" I will be taking her out for dinner ...so I can't drop you off tomorrow.
But I promise to send the driver to drop you off ok."
" There's no need for a driver I can take care of myself without you.
" Should I drop you off at home or would you like to crash at my place tonight.
" I'm ok at my house I don't think staying at your house will leave a good expression of me to your mom.
" Ok that works, I guess we will get to meet in the office then.......
