Chapter 21

While I had my eyes closed, I recalled an old memory.

Lil, my bluebird, died and I secretly buried her, with Callisto helping me.

Of course, the servants of the Palace would notice that Lil had suddenly disappeared from her cage.

I was terrified of the trouble I would be under, and so I lied to Andrew, saying that Lil ran away after I left the window open while I let her out of her cage.

I still remember how he assured me that they would find Lil.

I couldn’t tell him that Lil was dead… All I did was nod and thank him.

… Imagine my shock when three days later, they present me with a small cage carrying a bluebird that looked exactly like my Lil.

But it couldn’t be Lil… because Lil was dead, and I’ve buried her.

Many of my palace servants were gathered together while Andrew handed me the bluebird.

I was angry at first. I couldn’t believe how they would try to trick me into believing that this… impostor was my precious friend!
