A Beast's Second Attempt.

A legendary man, blessed by the God of War himself, killed countless enemies in innumerous realities. Until one day, he fought his last battle. Of course, he was victorious, being the last man standing. The Beast, how the enemies called him, walked in the direction of a tree stump, sitting on it. He put down both of his axes, used to kill his enemies, and looked at the sky. He closed his eyes and a soft smile appeared on his face for the first time after thousands of years. Relief. That's what he felt. His soul left his nearly immortal body and, as it was reaching the light, it screamed "No! I'm not done yet!". And, the God that blessed him, answered his prayers for the first time in his existence. His voice was as piercing as a lightning and as resonating as a thunder, said "Then, so be it." A flash appeared in his sight, and, when it faded away, he opened his eyes. For the first time, it wasn't a battlefield, but a peaceful wooden shack, sitting in a handmade chair, holding his axes. Before he could even wonder what was happening and enjoy a bit of peacefulness, he sensed enemies approaching. Peace was never meant to him, apparently.

A Town! And perhaps, a new job?

Two soldiers stood close to the entrance of a little town, surronded by nothing more than some hills and grass. Seemed like a lovely place to live, and a peaceful town. The soldiers, both of them on each side of the entrance, holding long spears as they wore their armors.

It was just a normal day, they weren't expecting any new people today, like the other days of work, until they noticed a silhouette far from them. They couldn't really tell who it was, or what it was, but it was quick, and looked human in shape. They quickly stood in battle position, pointing their spears. "State your purpose!" One of them screamed. Both of them felt like something was off.

But, just as the soldier screamed, the image of them transformed in many, as it had lost it focus, like an illusion, and vanished away from his sight. The spear-wielding soldier was confused, both of them, were. What just happened? They were sure someone was there, or, at least, something. It was like a natural threat, but it just vanished in thin air.

"I'm not dealing with this shit." The Beast said to himself as he passed through the guards running, so fast, actually, they didn't even notice. It was more of an instantaneous dash than actually running. As the Beast entered the city, he camouflaged among people, although he had nothing to cover his chest. It didn't really matter, he was going directly to the Adventurer's building of the town.

Of course, if the town had one, his guess was that it had one. He saw many eccentric people, wearing shiny and fancy armor, wielding weapons normally, so he deduced that this town was actually an adventurer's city more than anything. Thinking deeply into that, indeed, it made sense. Close to mountains and forest, where monsters show up the most, the Adventurer's building probably is the one with more people going in and out.

Indeed, he was right, it didn't take long until the Beast found it. A fairly big place, two levels, a pretty writing on the sign outside it. He took a peek from outside really quickly through the window. Many adventurers were inside, some alone, some in groups, the most of them were in groups, actually, talking and socializing.

It didn't take much for him to push the door and go inside. As he did it, time seemed like it froze in place. Silence dominated the place as everyone felt his presence, looking at him. A big, shirtless man, wielding two axes, 2.10m tall, walking with his back curved instead of standing straight. It was not a sight anybody expected to see any time soon. And he sent some... Menacing 'status' around, it was natural, not something he seemed to control, or that he wanted to. And, not only that, nobody had never seen this man before, and yet, he seemed powerful.

The Beast didn't care much, so he ignored and walked to the counter where some ladies worked, to help new adventurers, give quests and payments, you know, the basics. "What quests are avaiable?" He said looking into the employee's eyes. She swallowed dry saliva as she stared into his eyes. Scary! "Y-Yes, sir. D-Do you have your adventurer's license with you?"

"No, it's my first time here. Never worked with this before." The Beast said, and sudden shock hit people. He never worked with this? He seemed ripped off and was like a full berserker. Perhaps he once was a soldier for the empire and never needed to get an adventurer's license? People considered this actually option, but they had never heard about him in the military before, even from when the empires still stood. "I-Is that so? So... I need to measure your mana output and-" As she was talking, he briefly interrupted her.

"I don't have any mana output. It naturally converts into energy, defense, physical enhancement and other things. No mana leaves my body." The silence suddenly felt denser. What? No mana left his body? What was he? As most deduced, a liar! Perhaps some kind of really talented illusionist? He may not even look like that. "No magical output, bruv? Seems like you are a lying." As any good clichee, a sturdy man, wielding a sword, confronted the Beast's words. The swordsman was not bigger than him, really, but he seemed full of himself.

The Beast, actually, didn't care much. The employee nervously explained it was necessary for him to do the test anyway, it was simple, he needed to put his hand on a Refined Mana Crystal made for that, which the Adventurer's Guild gave them to do the test for free, it would show a numerical value and the adventurer would return it. And so, the Beast did as such, and just as he said, it was a zero. The swordsman saw the numbers and backed off. It was something no man could trick, the Refined Mana Crystal was extremely precise, no man could trick it without being noticed.

"R-Right, what is your name, sir?" The employee said as she got a small, copper-made, card, it was flat without any engravings. "Beast. It's not really a name, but it's the best I can give you." The employee only nodded and engraved the name he asked for and handed him his license. "Are there any quests available for me?" He said as he went to the board, the one that caught his attention was a dragon! A dragon hunt. "Sorry, sir, as your level is still at Copper, you can't have this one. But there are some for you close to the bott-" As the employee explained, he reached for a quest, it was an wild-boar hunt, with 5-stars written on it. "Can I have this one?" The Beast asked.

"Yes, but it is a high-level one, for a starter I'd re-" She was, once more, cut off by him, as he ripped the paper out of the board. "I'm going with this one, I'll be back in sometime." The Beast said as he went through the main door and left. Everybody inside was confused about what just happened. Who was him? Why was he only a starter, looking that? Also, his axes, they seemed expensive, but he had almost no clothes, and he didn't even bother to talk, or even look at other people.

"He's just full of 'imself, bruvs. He probably sold hi' fucking clothes to buy those axes." The swordsman said as he left and took a big sip from the beer in his cup. "I think he seems interesting at the very least." A man wearing a magician's robe said while he played around with dirt-made little golems on his table. "We'll see who's right when he gets back. If he gets back!" The swordsman said and laughed out loud.

...

The Beast thought as he read the Quest paper in his hand. Why was a wild boar hunt high level? Any moron with a sword probably kill one of those little bastards, maybe they were many, but the Quest only asked to kill one. As he thought about it, his thoughts got interrupted by a pretty woman, wearing a low-level magician's robe. "Hi~ I saw you holding that Quest paper of yours and leaving alone the Adventurer's building... And I thought you could use of a caster in your-" As she was saying, he passed by her side and continued walking to his destination.

She really pretty, eye-cactching, at the very least. A short black hair, about 1.65, with really nice curves in her body, perhaps, the woman that many man dreamed about. And, she was stagnated. She just got ignored! Using her charms to talk with him, and the man just walked by her like she wasn't even there! So, she tried again. "Perhaps you didn't listen to me~ I want to go with you, you seem strong! But could use help, right?" She said, and quickly got an answer, that she wasn't really expecting. "No." The Beast said, not even bothering to look at her as he continued to walk.

This made her furious! He was treating her like trash! She wouldn't leave it like that. "Hey~ Perhaps you didn't hear me correctly, but I'm inviting you to go with me!" She said, trying to maintain her patience. As he finished it, he stood still. In that brief moment, she thought she had him on her grip. But it only last a moment.

He stared at her, deep into her core through her eyes and said. "I said no." She collapsed on the ground, falling on her knees, shaking, scared. It was a brief moment and that man... Made her fall like that? By mere pressure and exerting fear? The Beast turned around and continued to go on his way. She felt like she had encountered a demon in the depths of hell, she couldn't really explain the overwhelming fear she was feeling. It was... Just atrocious.

As she fell, three men, that were hiding in alley, probably her friends prepared to trick the man she was talking before, ran to help her. "What did he do to you? I'm gonna kill that bastard! Hey-" As he was going to catch the Beast's attention through screams, she pulled him. "No... Don't mess with him... Something is wrong... With that guy." He turned around to see her. "What, no, he's just-" When his eyes met hers, he could see true fear leaking out as her entire body shook. What was that... Monster?
