"Ah!" Rebecca cried out as she flinched once more as another zombie's head was sent flying. She had seen it five times already, but she was still unable to get used to it. It was just that.
"Shhh! Are you trying to drag the whole street here!?" Leo whispered firmly. He did not know why this girl kept crying out!
"Sorry…." Rebecca blushed and covered her mouth. She quickly looked around and felt slightly relaxed when she only saw a few zombies coming towards them. She watched as Leo quickly dispatched them and picked up another zombie gummy.
"Leo… that…." Rebecca really wanted to know how he was getting these things to drop and where he was putting them.
"You will find out later. Look, we are back." Leo pointed at their house. Rebecca pursed her lips and pushed the bike forward with Leo. They had everything they could grab strapped to the bike, from food to water and other drinks. Anything that could keep them alive, they loaded onto the bike.
"You two…." The front door to one of the first-floor apartments opened up slightly. "Bring me some of that food and water."
Leo looked at the fat face poking its head out between the crack in the door and frowned. "If you want, supplies risk your life."
"You! Are you human or not? I only want half of what you got." The fat face replied with a bit of anger in his voice. But he did not dare to raise it too high. All the things he had thought about in how he was going to intimidate Leo went right out the window as soon as he opened the door. He was too afraid of attracting zombies.
"Hah…" Leo grinned, picked up a large rock, and started throwing it up and down, catching it in his hand.
"Wha…. What are you doing with that!?" The fat face suddenly became fearful.
"I wonder what would happen if I threw this through your window?" Leo asked with a smile on his face.
The fat face quickly disappeared with a click of the door as it closed. Leo snorted and continued to push the bike forward. Rebecca, who watched from the side quietly, felt like Leo handled that well. She also did not wish to give up any of the things they risked their life for and had worked hard to get. She almost became a zombie to get these items. And she only got scratched by a zombie and got infected.
"So, how do you want to do this?" Leo asked.
"What do you mean?" Rebecca was slightly confused.
"My house or yours? Which house do you want to stay in?" Leo knew that if they were going to work together, being split up would be bad.
Rebecca finally understood and wrinkled her brow. She looked at everything they had and finally said: "Your house. We can use part of mine to reinforce your place. I… I don't have much in my house anyway."
"Same for me," Leo replied. "We should also look around at what we can use to block certain areas off around the house as well. Luckily, the upstairs does not have windows, but the door might be a bit of an issue. So we should try to figure something out. Also, the walls between the apartments on the balconies are also not very secure.
"We will need to figure out a way to keep people from climbing over. Now that many have probably seen how many supplies we have, we will need to secure our current place until we are ready to go out and find a new place to live. The food we have will last a week if we eat normally. During this time, we will need to find a new base."
"Okay." Rebecca nodded. She was actually starting to be glad she decided to stick to Leo. He was much more reliable than she had thought. To already be making plans like this was quite good.
Leo did go out for a jog sometimes to get some fresh air, so he had a decent understanding of the neighborhood they were in. There was not much around that could be used as a base. There were a few places that did have a basement, but he did not know if they could easily get into them or if they were occupied or not.
"Leo, you are right to leave this place. I can hear that guy cursing under his breath. You should be careful tonight." Nora warned.
"Thanks." Leo nodded before lifting the bike to walk up the stairs. Rebecca ignored Leo talking to himself and helped keep things steady as they moved up to the second floor.
The two walked past a poodle of fresh blood. Leo looked at the open door and put one hand on the hilt of his sword. He then looked at Rebecca and said: "Shhh…"
Rebecca nodded as they slowly walked by. Leo looked in to see a zombie feasting on what seemed to be a woman. Leo closed his eyes and continued past. He noticed that it was too busy eating to even hear them, which was a good thing. They hurried to his room, where they pushed the bike inside and closed the door.
Leo looked at the supplies and then thought about the zombie and sighed. "Stay here. I will go clear the floor."
"Okay… Be careful…." Rebecca nodded and began taking things off the bike. She also felt this was a good thing. Watching Leo leave, she wondered what made him trust her so much. She sighed as she mumbled: "I guess he is not too bad…."
Leo closed the door and locked it. He then walked over to the door that was open and peeked inside. "You are doing the right thing. If you left it here, it might cause issues later on. But why are you so trustful of that girl?" Nor asked.
"Because she needs me. Zombie Gummies, remember? Whether or not we will become good friends in the future is another story, but right now, we both need each other. You can not do anything but warn me of stuff. She can at least fight if something happens. I think we will do fine together for a while." Leo answered in a whisper.
Nora nodded her head. She did not think of that. She looked at Leo, who was now concentrating on the task at hand, and smiled. He had only gone out once, but he was already doing well with realizing what must be done.
