FIFTEEN

Lillie was playing one of her favorite songs on the piano as everyone was in the drawing room.

"It is here!" Ophelia ran into the room, holding onto the paper no doubt from Lady Whistledown.

"Dearest, we told you to not care about this." Lady Pendermore reminded her daughter.

"But mother, Sister is mentioned."

"What?" Lillie asked, getting up from her piano and walking towards the girl.

"What does it say?" Maeve asked.

"She and Viscount Bridgerton were seen dancing not once, but twice. He is the most eligible bachelor there is as he is planning on marrying this season. And it is our sister." Ophelia explained, smiling. "Oh how wonderful is that not. Now Hyacinth and I can actually be real sisters."

"Ophelia dear." Lady Pendermore warned her youngest daughter.

"I'm sorry Mother. I'm just so excited." Ophelia smiled, jumping up and down from excitement.

"Lord Bridgerton wouldn't be so bad of a choice." Lord Pendermore mentioned as he occasionally looked up from his newspaper. "That of course is up to you my Dear. If he is smart like you say he is, he would ask me first if he were to propose."

"I believe it is not possible. Lord Bridgerton and I are simply just friends." Lillie said, trying to explain to her family there was absolutely nothing going on between the two.

"I for one support it Sister." Kygo said. "Although I do believe you can do better with someone with a better haircut. Someone like with my hair perhaps."

"Wait until Jasper hears about this. His best mate and his younger sister, oh this is gold." Keeton smiled, a little too big. He was enjoying this too much.

"Lillie!"

"Oh here comes the monster." Keeton chuckled as they all watched their eldest brother walk in.

Jasper hated what he just heard. His sister and best mate? He knew this were to happen.

"How could you?"

"Me?" Lillie asked.

"You and Anthony. I told you to stay away from him." Jasper shouted.

"You said no such thing."

"I will not allow it. He cannot give you what you want."

"And what is it I want Brother?" Lillie said, crossing her hands across her chest.

"I—."

"Tell me dear Brother what is it you think I want? As you always seem to know everything we want in this family." Lillie argued.

"It is my duty, as your older brother to help you find a match with someone that can provide what Father and I have done all these years."

"I want to marry for love Brother. Not someone who will give me money when I ask him for it. Not someone who gifts me things cause he cannot be home for our children's birthday."

"Love is not possible." Jasper argued.

Lillie scoffed. "Oh how can I forget. You are not capable of love because it makes you weak and valuable. Well rest assured Brother, Anthony and I are only friends. That has what it's been for years now. He will never propose."

"He better not, if he knows what is good for him." With that Jasper left the room, leaving everyone confused and shocked at what just happened.

Why was Jasper so against with his best mate and his sister?
