Chapter 180: A Fragile Peace
The streets of the capital are quiet, almost unnervingly so. After the rebellion's suppression, Lin Yuer has turned her attention to rebuilding. The city, still scarred by the violence, is in need of healing. The citizens, fearful and unsure, must be shown that the empire can be a place of hope and prosperity once again.
Lin Yuer walks through the city, a cloak draped around her, her face hidden from the common people. She takes in the devastation, the destruction that the rebellion has left behind. As she passes, she sees the weary faces of her citizens—people who once believed in the empire but now doubt whether their loyalty was misplaced.
But Lin Yuer's resolve is unwavering. She stops at a marketplace that was once the heart of the city, its stalls now abandoned and charred. The merchants have returned, but there is no joy in their faces, only weariness. She approaches one of them, an older woman who seems hesitant but curious.
"You've seen the chaos, haven't you?" Lin Yuer asks, her voice soft.
The merchant looks up, startled. "Your Majesty," she begins, a mix of fear and respect in her tone. "The city... it was torn apart. We don't know who to trust anymore. What's to become of us?"
Lin Yuer meets her gaze, her expression soft but firm. "I understand your pain. I understand the fear. But I swear to you, I will not let this empire fall into despair. Together, we will rebuild. This city will be as it once was—strong and proud."
The merchant nods, still unsure, but Lin Yuer sees a flicker of hope in her eyes. The path to healing is long, but it has already begun.
