Rust & Roses: The Weight I Carried Home
In a city rusting beneath neon skies and corporate decay, Jack Santos has learned one rule: fix what you can, steal what you can’t, and never get attached. He keeps his head down, working the edges of survival while the city swallows softer souls whole.
Then he finds her; a shattered android girl in a junk heap, circuits still flickering, eyes dim but not dead. Her name is Emi, and she was built for care, not combat, her design a relic from a gentler age the city forgot. Jack should strip her for parts. Instead, he takes her home.
Rebuilding Emi means breaking every rule that’s kept him alive. Every wire he solders tightens the line between survival and hope. As she reawakens, learning speech, curiosity, and choice, Jack begins to confront his own disconnection from the world he’s tried to shut out. But in a city where empathy is a liability and technology is property, their connection is a dangerous glitch.
