Before Batman, before the mansion, before the billions there was Jonathan Elias Wayne, a humble police officer with a righteous heart, a loyal wife, and a dream of justice.
When Jonathan moves his family to the crime-ridden streets of Gotham, he expects a fresh start. Instead, he steps into a nightmare. A string of gruesome, ritualistic murders has haunted the city for decades and every effort to investigate has ended in blood, silence, or madness.
Jonathan is warned to leave it alone. But he doesn’t.
He digs deep and uncovers whispers of a secret, ancient organization known only as “The Owe” a group believed to control Gotham from the shadows, tied to its earliest founding. Judges, politicians, priests, and industrialists all serve this dark force, paying tribute in coin… and blood.
As Jonathan tries to solve the murders, he is targeted, framed, hunted, and betrayed even by his own brother Abe, who is slowly seduced by The Owe’s promises. With the help of his wife Isadora, a street-smart orphan boy named Scrap, and a few rare allies within the city, Jonathan wages a dangerous war against Gotham’s secret rulers.
Throughout the book:
He discovers that The Owe was involved in Gotham’s very creation, using sacrifice and control to shape the city’s destiny.
His investigations lead to underground courts, lost tunnels, and forbidden knowledge.
He fights to keep his family safe as corrupt leaders turn the city against him.
His faith in justice is tested as he’s forced to make terrible choices.
He learns that his own ancestors may have helped build The Owe, and now he must be the one to end it.
In the final arc, Gotham descends into chaos. The Owe demands Jonathan’s blood as payment for disrupting the balance. In a climactic war, his brother Abe sacrifices himself, the city’s elites are exposed, and The Owe is severely weakened but not destroyed.
The book ends with Jonathan and Isadora surviving, wounded but standing, vowing to protect Gotham in their own way. Their legacy is secured when Isadora gives birth to their son, Thomas Wayne — the man who will one day father Bruce Wayne, the Batman.

the first immediate problem I have with this entire story is in the description New York a city with more crime than Gotham ...... I'm sorry but what? lol Gotham New York could not possibly have more crime than Gotham or have more super villains than Gotham
