Ji Cheng stood beside her bed, staring at her face in wonder, questioning if it was real. A faint smile touched his lips as he watched her eyelashes flutter, signaling she was waking up.
However, her reaction was far from what he expected.
“Pak!”
He froze, hand flying to his cheek in shock.
“…Did you just slap me?”
Xie Ming’s mouth opened in pure terror as reality crashed down on her.
She slapped the Emperor.
The cruel and infamous ruler of the Ji Dynasty.
Am I going to die again? I just came to this world… do I have to die twice?
......
Zhao Ming was once the Empress of the Ji Dynasty, in name only. Ignored. Disrespected. A shadow inside the palace walls.
Until fate gave her another chance.
She opened her eyes in a world unlike anything she had ever known—strange devices, strange clothing, and a life that didn’t belong to her.
A modern world.
A second life.
......
Meanwhile, Xie Ming, the wife of a powerful businessman, was known as nothing but trash.
A rebellious brat. A shameless, lazy woman.
Until one day… she opened her eyes in a palace drenched in blood and rules.
And discovered the impossible.
She had become the Empress of the Ji Dynasty.
Two souls.
Two worlds.
Two broken women living each other’s lives.
One is trying to survive the ruthless modern world. The other is trying not to die in a cruel imperial court.

A Masterpiece of Psychological Horror: Why We’ve All Been Reading This Peak Completely Wrong. I just had a massive epiphany reading the latest chapters, and I need to talk about it because it completely recontextualizes the entire story. If you think this is just a story about an alien parasite, you’re missing the absolute tragedy of what’s actually happening to the main character. An alien trapped by his own faux-humanity. In the beginning, Aldrich was almost entirely robotic,no emotions or attachments, just a biological need to eat, adapt, and progress. But as he "consumed" and evolved and absorbed more, we started getting these "proto-humans." Erasmus stepped into the light, killed Aldrich, and took over. But here is the terrifying part that I think a lot of readers missed during the Butcher/Cerberus warehouse scene: The next persona in the cycle is Mars. When Cerberus told Butcher his dream vacation was "red sand, two moons, total desolation", he wasn't talking about a place. He was talking about the entity's ultimate, absolute phase. Mars is the personality of the world-devourer. It’s the cosmic horror that will eventually wake up, strip this planet clean, and leave it as a graveyard. So why hasn't it happened yet? Because Erasmus is stalling the entire life cycle. He is terrified. He is only a child. Erasmus told Stormfront he was a "very, very good being," and he desperately needs to believe that lie. Because he has tasted the drug of human emotion. He is hopelessly addicted to the unconditional fatherly love from Homelander, the absolute, cult-like devotion of Stormfront, the blind loyalty of Oliver, and the envy of Ryan. He has built this beautiful, pristine, golden-prince reality for himself. If he lets "Mars" wake up, that entire fragile playground is crushed into dust. Aldrich literally called him out: "You've done nothing to finish our life cycle... we would die of old age before your plan bears fruit." Aldrich wanted to move forward, as the biology dictates. But Erasmus forced him to commit suicide just to maintain the status quo. Erasmus is literally murdering his own sub-personas to protect his comfortable life. Erasmus claimed he didn't want to consume Homelander because it would cross a line, stripping away his boundaries and destroying the "fragile beauty" of the world. But that was pure lies. The truth is so much more pathetic. We still don't know exactly what happens to the previous personas when a new one takes over, but assuming it’s just darkness... Erasmus is just terrified of losing his own identity. I will wait for the next chapter to see if I need to edit this. Also, Aldrich and Erasmus are honestly some of the greatest villains and monsters I’ve read in so long. It's almost a shame the author decided to waste them on a fanfic, but overall? Absolute peak fiction.
