At least the basic writing is decent - no bad grammar, half-finished sentences or vocabulary used oddly. It could have been a good story even with the elements from different novels (shadow hack, fishing the myriad heavens, my backyard is a dump..) if the unique aspect, the house, was developed properly. And by that I mean in a consistent way, with house as the focus, and using elements from those stories that fit with the golden finger, that is, the house.
