It's a mess. It's a hodgepodge of ideas from different stories connected through the idea of a house mutating. Or a system connected to a house. By chapter 20 something, it's a system with personality novel and the house is sidelined as a resource. This story doesn't know what it wants to be. At least the basic writing is decent - no bad grammar, half-finished sentences or vocabulary used oddly. It could have been a good story even with the elements from different novels (shadow hack, fishing the myriad heavens, my backyard is a dump..) if the unique aspect, the house, was developed properly. And by that I mean in a consistent way, with house as the focus, and using elements from those stories that fit with the golden finger, that is, the house. But alas, earwax, ahem, no, I mean it's not to be.
