Great story! To me, it has a Discworld-esque vibe that is quite pleasant! (Terry Pratchett) The major difference is that it will probably stick with some characters for longer than Discworld books would. Also, there's a a more consistent science/system to the way magic and the world works in this world. Makes it easier to get into if you're not into just silly stuff. I highly recommend!
