To be honest, your inability to properly use quotes or italics for thoughts or dialogue is getting to be incredibly annoying. It is like you are just doing it randomly, there isn't even a normal mistake you are making, you just randomly through out quotes and italics no matter what is going on. What exactly is happening? I like your concept, but somehow the writing couldn't get me. It was more like I was reading what has happened. It seemed a narration of the entire event. I didn't get pulled in the universe of this tale. Also, there were couple of errors. Perhaps, you meant them to write in Italics and then they would have seemed right but since Italics isn't allowed here, it looks wrong. You should put them in single quotes. But like you said that this is your first story - you've done a wonderful job if that's the case.

One criticism regarding writing technique is that the author continuously switches between first and third person from sentence to sentence. It's important to stick to one or the other. If a statement is an internal monologue or thought, it should be demarcated as such in some way, either with quotes or perhaps italics.
