The author continually feels the need to state that the mc is a street rat and uses it to literally explain any emotion. The world design is decent but the story is just so painfully slow with perspective changes so your reading 2 different painfully slow stories with information dump fillers at the same time.

I think it makes sense. The thing about being a street rat, it not that he is miserable or poor. But that contacted another part of life without any censorship before being of age, of course it would leave Mark's, otherwise he would have already died. Can't do the same thing, but it can show that while the world is not a cruel place in general, it is also not a benevolent place.
