The original author abandoned this story 4 years ago... but yeah it is odd he isnt just uploading the entire story and doing it piece meal

if it was simply a personal archive you could copy and paste it into a word processing document. store it on the cloud somewhere. You're posting it in a public medium - changing the title - and doing it with what appears to be without author's consent. At the minimum that's rude AF. On the other end it's 100% illegal.
Preference, because you can just as easily covert it into a file format because what is uploaded on the internet stays in it. Plus said documents can easily be corrupted, recycled etc. And lastly because I can.
