4/5/2/4/5 Good story with a compelling MC and an interesting application of the MC's quirk that had me hooked and enamored with this story in the early chapters, but it takes a sharp nosedive after the plot hard stalls. I wouldn't mind slow pacing/slice-of-life style stuff if we actually had important character moments happening, but instead what the latter half of this volume comprises of is a blur of quirk analysis and training of side characters. Any meaningful moments are sandwiched between layers and layers of unnecessary, unimportant, padding.
Liked it!
LIKEYui and S... are not just side characters; they are important to the story and needed to be treated with care. Throughout chapters 7-2 to 7-8, S... dramatically evolves as a person, and I needed to show both her talent and the immense heaviness of their training. If that's not a plot to you, I’m not sure what you consider to be one. Besides, you were warned about the pacing at the beginning of the book.
A story of delicate character writing, slow but impactful pacing, and visible character evolution, is not the story that you've put to paper. Maybe it was in the early half of the volume during the early interactions of Yui and the MC, but after "S" is introduced your story goes nowhere, and that's the be-all and end-all of that. You do not, and never need multiple paragraphs and chapters to show her talent and how heavy their training is, ESPECIALLY not one after the other.
