She's gonna be the love interest for most of the story, but it's gonna change at the end since their relationship isn't like that for them to get married. Best thing I could describe it as is Friends with Benefits, close friends with benefits at any rate.

There's no traditional 'Female Lead', best approximation of that would be Maki but Megumi and her are NOT getting together. Megumi, or atleast this Megumi, just doesn't have the time nor the energy to worry about an actual relationship. He'll get married at the end of the fic because he wants to have some children at the end of his path to strength, but it's not like he'll have an actual romance since it just doesn't make sense for his character nor does it fit the story. So while Mei Mei will be Megumi's partner and the closest thing he'll have to a 'lover', she's not gonna be his wife or anything like that. Atleast nothing like that is planned as of this moment.

It's unfortunate because I really like Mei Mei and would love to see them get married. However, it doesn't need to be shown in every aspect of the story, as you mentioned that romance isn't the main focus, and I completely understand that.
