The balance between risk and consequence should always be there and do not make it easy for the mc make him sweat blood and tears to have a fulfilling reward to the readers. In my suggestion the ocean arc messed up allot it would be better if phenomenon causes all creatures to mutate and the world salvaging the whole thing giving a new beginning to the story.
