Characters are woefully one dimensional. Interesting concept, poor execution. Has this author heard of the concept of levity? Genuinely wondering if author is aware "dark" does not mean characters should experience every possible traumatic occurrence known to man. While I am concerned to some degree about some of the characters' well-being I am not moved to continue any further than I have read (for reference that is 10% of the way through chapter 21) I do hope the author develops their style over time and improves upon it if this is a career they wish to pursue, this work in it's current state however is lacking, tragic (not in the way the author intended mind you) and atrocious. If one has to wait for chapter 100+ to experience a brief period in which traumatic events aren't the focal point of the novel then it is simply not worth the time and energy.

LIKEThis is a dark story, if you aren’t into the genre do not read this. Having a story be grosome and raw doesn’t make it bad, just not for everyone. The character development is great as well. I have finished the whole story and thought is was fantastic. It’s a dark story, has great character development and is a slow burn. If you aren’t into those themes, don’t read this.
I am quite familiar with the genre & am an avid reader of both dark romance & slow-burn. Everything I stated still stands. Piling traumatic event upon tramatic event in the first few chapters with no attempt at levity is poor writing skill nothing more. Something I negated to mention, however, is the fact it is painfully obvious that the author is not equiped with the tools to write disabled and mentally-ill characters in an effective way. Critiquing something doesn't mean people aren't allowed to like it, calling a spade a spade doesn't mean you're not allowed to like the spade. I, too, enjoy my fair share of pretty trash & if someone were to call it pretty trash I wouldn't be up in arms insisting they "just don't get it like I do," because at the end of the day pretty trash is still just that [pretty trash].

Also you spelt "grosome" incorrectly Mich_elle, it's g-r-U-E-s-o-m-e. Common mistake though. Have a good one. 🫰

I’m not saying you can’t criticize it, but it seems like you just read a few Chapters without actually seeing the character development done in the story. You don’t need to like it or finish reading it if you aren’t into it, I’m just saying there is nothing wrong with having dark themes and having the characters deal with very heavy trauma. You don’t need to continue reading if you didn’t like it, but there’s 1000 Chapters to this story and most ppl who read this would agree the character development is solid and good that’s one of the reasons why this story is popular. Not saying all popular books are masterpieces or doesn’t have flaws. It’s a slow burn story with heavy elements and some solid character development, and you just read a few chapters assuming his the story is gonna go. Again, you don’t have to ever continue reading this, but your comment just seems more like you having different taste and not into very dark themes presented in this way (Which is fine), instead of giving good criticism on this story.

Michelle, skimming through the reviews, you've heavily attacked any poor review of the book on here, which usually indicates you're an alternate account of the author, or somehow know them. Regardless, this is a public platform, and you really should lay off. People can have different opinions on what constitutes "dark" and a "well-written book". Personally, I also dropped this book somewhere along the way and put it on a reading list so I'd never pick it up again. It's too dark (for me) and there's no character development. It's not a great book for every person. I've read the other "dark" books by this author, and am thoroughly enjoying them, so I know the author can do better! Constantly putting your characters through abuse as a form of "character development" isn't a thing, it's just lazy, shock-factor writing, intended to keep the audience interacting and rooting for a better outcome that usually drags on too long or never comes. I am happy to see that the author has developed their writing a lot following this book. That's all I've got to say, feel free to pick apart my words as I know you'll do though! 🙃
