Harry Potter: Eternity Wizard
As a survivor of war, Roger studied magic only to stay alive.
Nicolas Flamel: "Then I'll teach you how to create the Philosopher's Stone and brew the Elixir of Life. How about that?"
Roger: "Not learning, not learning. It’s called the Elixir of Life, but after a few hundred years, the body decays into a miserable wreck. Endless suffering—how can that be called eternal life?" Roger shook his head.
Voldemort: "I'll teach you the art of Horcruxes—split your soul into seven parts. Even after death, you can be reborn. How about it?"
Roger: "Not learning, not learning. Splitting the soul is self-mutilation. Even if it looks like resurrection, a Theseus’ ship that loses its continuity—how is that still me?"
Dumbledore: "Death is not the end but a new and great adventure. I'll teach you—"
Before he could finish, Roger interrupted: "Choosing death while hope remains is nothing but admitting defeat and escaping out of weakness. And if there is no hope, how is that any different from true death? Not learning!"
Grindelwald: "I'll pass on to you the art of prophecy—foreseeing enemies, seizing the tides of time, leading wizards to greatness once more. Then, with the combined power of all wizards, they shall sustain your life indefinitely. How about it?"
As a fellow prophet, Roger thought seriously for a moment but ultimately shook his head.
"Just as I now stand above this era, each generation has its own talents, and the world is vast beyond measure. No matter how powerful I become, there will always be someone stronger in the future. No one is invincible forever, and no one is truly undefeated. Tying myself too deeply to the fate of others is not the path to eternity."
Rejecting the final offer from an elder, Roger Virgil gazed at the starry sky.
"...Since no path exists in this world, it seems I must carve one out myself."
