Sorry to say that I dropped this at chapter 6. With that being said, I gave the writing quality, story development, and world background all 5 stars. I always give 5 stars for stability of updates since I don't care about that. As for Character design...I gave it 2 stars and it is the primary reason I have dropped this story so soon. MOST of the characters are fairly well-written but unfortunately the MAIN character has some issues. For one, it is annoying that he actually ASKS Ye Ziyun and Xiao Ning'er to just order him around instead of asking for anything. He is basically a total SIMP and I personally believe him to be a slight M (looking at you author, wink wink). Another annoying point is that the author seems to have nerfed the Yami Yami no Mi pretty badly. I don't THINK it is Canon that the user of the fruit is affected by the gravity ability. Of course, I could be remembering it wrong but basically our MC can hardly use the power of his fruit (by chapter 6 at least) due to his own gravity effect knocking him out or at the very least heavily exhausting him after every use. This basically makes having the fruit useless, since it cannot be used freely like every other Logia Devil Fruit user that I know of. The final thing I have an issue with, which is also pretty annoying, is that the MC is supposed to be a scientist turned assassin/spy with all the knowledge of Nie Li. This wouldn't typically be an issue but unfortunately the MC makes extremely dumb decisions and acts like he hasn't even recieved the knowledge of Nie Li or his experiences at all. Example: MC decides to hide his devil fruit power from everyone. Understandable since it would be extremely strange. So what does MC do? He goes to the training ground to practice his DF powers and ends up using his power to save a girl that he doesn't even know, right in front of her, then passing out due to the strain of the power and having this random person take care of him. The girl ends up being Yang Xin, but MC didn't know that in the beginning, he merely 'saved' her (a cultivator of bronze rank while our MC has NO CULTIVATION) from a 1 star bronze ranked Horned Sheep. MC puts his life on the line to save some random girl he doesn't know, shows off his supposed to be hidden power, and does all of this with NO CULTIVATION at all. Then, he starts trying to improve Yang Xin's cultivation technique even though he should be keeping his knowledge a secret since he was JUST adopted into the Ye family and was supposed to be a no named orphan. Also, after buying ingredients from Yang Xin, MC attempts to make his own pills but utterly fails and chalks it up to poor talent. I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe, considering he should have all the knowledge of Nie Li. Nie Li might not have been the best alchemist in the world but his knowledge should have easily allowed the MC to make some simple pills. Overall, the MC turned out to be an complete letdown for me. Nerfed DF powers, stupid decision making, and not properly using the knowledge he recieved from Nie Li to do anything significant made me not want to read anymore. I will delete this review if someone tells me that the Yami Yami no Mi is SUPPOSED to work that way and write another, more accurate one if that turns out to be my mistake. If not, then I recommend a rewrite and some better decision making on our MC's part. Still, if you are looking for an interesting story and don't want to worry about the little details too much, then this might be for you it simply wasn't my cup of tea..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
