He died and went back to the past when his family was alive and well despite being poor. In the previous life, he was sure the girl had died, but she is alive and well and is adopted by her family. He no longer wants to be a minister because he was betrayed despite having given everything to the country and his family died. But he ends up having to change his mind from not wanting the power he had anymore, since the girl lives saving important people in the kingdom. In fact, she is a soul of the future.
It's confusing because of child bride thing.. They mention it more as a whim than anything else and nothing was decided.
