An actually decent novel. Although the MC is your run of the mill slightly unhinged Chinese protagonist, I think it works well and complements the plot so far. He's not offensively bad, I don't cringe at him or his decisions but instead find myself in agreement with his decisions most of the time, as of right now his gimmick is something like "in spite of his unconventional rationality, his decisions do end up paying off to varying extents" or something along those lines. For example, he had no reason to fight the sea beasts other than entertainment but that ended up working in his favour as "training". It's a teeny bit forced right now but I don't really mind, stuff like this could end up being an entertaining gimmick if executed properly, it'd much rather have his slightly unconventional thought process stay than him just completely turning bland. We've got some standard system tropes, I'm not sure if he can lose his fishing rod or not but even if he could, I doubt it'd happen for real, this is (in spite of the usual dark Chinese undertones) a relatively laid back novel after all. The whole premise while not very original isn't completely uninspired, it's quite alright and makes for some satisfying progression. This coupled with the protagonist's inconsistently eccentric personality could make for some entertaining shenanigans in the future but we'll have to wait and see. At the end of the day this is just a respectable novel with a relatively original premise, world and cheat. As long as the protagonist doesn't get bland or the plot repetitive, this'd be my cup of tea. I hope this gets picked. 3.5/5

"Unhinged" is definitely an understatement for this MC. But yeah, I liked him too.
Oh it's worse, my review only said "slightly unhinged". I think I've read so many CN novels with nutty protagonists to the point where I've been greatly desensitised. CN novel MCs actually made me bring my rationality into question, bonkers. I gotta take a break from this stuff, I can't believe that I called the maniac who dove into the sea every day for months to have gruesome, barbaric 1v1s against various oceanic monstrosities for literally no reason apart from "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" just "slightly unhinged". The mans a lunatic.

I used to have a really long and thorough reply I copy pasted whenever someone called me out this that but i can't be bothered to find it rn so just check my profile, all my reviews are like this and it's ok, review stars don't mean anything anyways. People review novels before chapters are even out all the time with witty one liners, "RAW PLS" or just comically premature reviews by some guy who read the title & synopsis and decided the novel was either incredibly exciting or complete rubbish despite the novel not having a single chapter yet. Don't dwell on the stars n just read the reviews instead. At least I actually quantify my thoughts at the end for those who actually read the novel. As for the stars, I give 1 for novels I really, really don't recommend and 5 for everything else.
