What's with people hating the harem genre? Harem, if done right, gives additional content for a book. The only reason it has a bad reputation is because of the authors who don't know how to right it appropriately. They are the brainless morons not the genre itself.

The idea of a harem requires so much character development and romantic development that I just don’t feel like even trying the read, I can’t be bothered to get into a story only for him to get an infinite amount of members out of nowhere. The premise of the novels are always inferesting but then the title has “me and a wife together in a different world” and then it shows him with 20 different girls and the idea of a single wife going out the window. It’s like if you read a novel about a monster I.e dragon, and in the first chapter he unlocks a human transformation and never goes back to being a dragon, the premise is just ruined and it feels like the author just made it like that for no reason other than the title brings in a lot of people and he can get a regular human story with more viewers. Harem is just a headache, think about it like this, you have 2 girls with different opinions, and you force them both to date you, now you add in another girl with a different opinion, and then an argument breaks out and you’re forced to pick a side, your harem breaks up and you’re left alone trying to find other girls to join. Now then picture how hard it is to get a girlfriend in the first place, you need somewhat similar opinions, and then you try to add 4 more all with different opinions, think about how many chapters it would take to develop each girl’s personalities, then you need to develop each girl with the other, now that you have that done you have to develop each girl with the mc’s personality, and then you have to develop each girl’s personalities to yours. I’ve never seen a novel that brings up that much work into it. That is why I hate the idea of harem, I respect your opinion and I hope this will give you insight into my thought process

first of all, that is a lot to unpack. it took me 30 secs to a minute to read the entire thing and it took me 5 minutes to understand it. so thanks for that hahaha. now I understand your POV, in fact, I knew that from the start. that is why it is so interesting to me. If someone dares to tackle a harem genre, to me, it is like a challenge they put on themselves. it is as you said. Just one heroine alone is hard enough, but multiple of them? It would be easier to make the villain turn into a good guy/gal than to implement all of the girls' characters with the mc in the middle. For me, if they manage to do even just an average job of it then, the author has the skill and talent to make a good novel. I read harem novels with an appraisal look so maybe that's why we view the idea differently. But to me, it is my way of finding good authors. Though I would read a harem novel even if it's badly implemented. I just treat it as 'time-killer' or 'comedic relief' to keep me from being bored. You know, as the say 'if someone gave you lemon, make a lemonade' I appreciate your opinion on this topic and thank you for being civil about unlike the other anti-harem peps who just type derogatory comments about the topic and us who enjoys it.

Yeah, I respect authors who try to tackle it, I usually don’t read harem but like you said whenever I do, it’s usually just a “I’m bored and the premise seems interesting” there are a few reasons for me to “get mad” at harems. First is the “surprise there’s no harem tag but the author said in an obscure review that it’s harem” second is if the main part of the story says one thing and then there’s a harem mixed into, kind of like a novel I was interested in just before this, the synopsis said “him and his death partner get reincarnated in a different world” now from that you’d get the “single wife” aspect from the title and synopsis, but then it has about 4 wives and an mc who’s supposed to have “dragon pride” but hides for 100 chapters(atleast that’s what multiple reviews talked about.) the third reason is if there’s an absurd amount of harem numbers, one novel i read had this guy go throughout multiple anime verses and take basically every girl he comes across. That’s about all that I hate about harem stories, if an author can do it right then I’m all for it but if the author “clickbaits” or pulls an infinite amount of girls, then I’ll complain a bit and leave; or I’ll just skip it immediately. I'm happy to be civil, but since I'm also on the anti harem side I can sort of get what those people feel, It sort of feels like you just found something with the best topic, only for it to be something you absolutely hate, and I also see the other side of it, wanting to have something be just to your liking is a human desire, not all people are perfect and some of us have desires that others don't like. Some people spam "Please let it be harem" on everything they can, and others hate on novels that have harem, I can't really take a side on any of the arguments since even if we want something it can't always go the way we want.
