The chapters are split up. Chapter 40(1) on webnovel is actually chapter 19 MTL/RAW. The site smuggled in a new business opportunity - splitting the chapters. In this case, they gave us less than 19 full chapters. Used to be 60.. 40.. What a magic! Of deception. The first chapters.. are unpolished by the author in my opinion. But if it improves later on then it's fine. There's some bland, stiff dialogue, unnatural behaviour, forced plot. The high rating's reason? Author's name does the job, for example. Besides, there's potential, just that the execution so far is average. The MC got [Agility] talent, then after using it he calls himself talented while being serious. Ha ha ha.. :D It's one of these novels where the one that takes MC role is decided by system (or well, apparently it's his Super ability). The author doesn't bother to write about the process of e.g. overcoming a language barrier. Just use system and... done, problem solved. For convenience... Grown men shown so far have somewhat flawed, unsuitable mentality for the roles they play (apparently they are experienced hunters but I wonder how they grew up and how they survived till now in such a dangerous world). The MC himself is alright, a bit dumb, a sheltered flower, no survival skills, so whatever logic or reasoning he comes up with is fine:) Hopefully he'll grow up as his adventures continue, or else be prepared for masterminds to have less IQ than he does. The author chose to write a novel with system and copied a popular idea. What was his motivation for this, one could wonder. In the same batch of trials, the author of "Protect our Patriarch(Chief)" actually roasted this kind of system novels. My comment is based only on the 19 (split into 40) chapters translated right now, because I have not touched MTL. If I read more chapters in future I'll either re-write my comment or add a fresh one with proper rating. 19 is not much after all and the subsequent might have a higher quality, I don't know. There are novels like World's Best Martial Artist, Museum of Deadly Beasts, A Sorcerer's Journey, Black Iron's Glory and many more that had even more boring, or cliche, or flawed initial chapters yet turned out to be much much better as I continued to read. It might also be the case with Astral Apostle.

Well it seems you didn't bother understanding what you read. Regarding the [Agility] talent and talents in general. They are not like passives in games. They are more like affinities. Even though the system is game-like it is based on actual power systems. His [Agility] talent at that point only allowed him to have a slightly better perception and being able to intuintively understand scouting. If 5/10 was average , he was like 6-7/10 regarding scouting and such. Him believing he is talented was in regard to battle intuition and instincts. When he returns from the "shuttle" , he finds out that he actually has a [Battle Intuition] talent. This actually raised his battle aptitude to blue. Aptitude are seperated in colours from white to green to blue to purple to etc. Each colour except white are further subdivided by 3 shades. For instance light green --> green --> dark green --> light blue , etc. Someone with blue qualifications can already be considered that lowest of genius. With purple I assume you are a normal tending to extraordinary genius. It is explained that the hunters acted like that for two reasons. One is that the MC was really weak overall despite his good physique. The head hunter could easily kill him. Second their society is like that. Their society is relatively new , mistrust and such feelings hadn't had time to develop. On top of that you have the hunters who advocate acting based on honour in order to protect humanity from beasts. Conning them once or twice shouldn't be too difficult for an individual who comes from a society where being double faced is second nature.

To be honest, it wasn't conveyed well at all, either by the author's constant barrage of status screens (which I've developed a habit of skimming over the years), or by the TL. This doesn't change the fact that it's not written that well.

Lol. Author isn't bombarding you constantly with status screens. Even when the status screen is shown up a bit more frequently at the start (due to the fact that a lot of things happens and the shuttle doesn't last that long) you don't get a huge text screen but only the parts that are relevant. The whole situation was explained just fine , you were just too biased and fast to judge to even bother understand what the author was explaining. If he was a bit more detailed you would be screaming that the author is telling the story instead of showing it and spoon-feeding you the information.

What! That's blasphemy! Status screens are holy items! Immediately turn yourself in to His Majesty, sinner!
