It's not a matter of realism, it's just how power imbalances work regardless of the type of power. A backstory showing the MC being at the bottom of the societal ladder is not a bad thing, it's very common, especially in xianxia novels, where personal power + power of backers = societal status. And in those situations, one has to bend if they don't want to break, if not bending was a viable option, they wouldn't be at the bottom of the ladder, and there'd be a lot less variety when it comes to possible conflicts the author could use to drive the MC's growth. Back to that quote from you: The former suggestion for what the author could have done shows that you're looking for a "everything goes well for the MC, nothing bad could possibly happen" type of wish fulfillment story. The latter suggestion, meanwhile, shows you don't care about - or perhaps actually don't want - any character building for the MC, the lack of which is a key trait of self-insert stories. For a self-insert wish fulfillment transmigration novel, go read something like Isekai Smartphone. No cuckolding the MC there. Or if you're into that, I've got other suggestions for hypocrites like you.

He is spineless because he got his ass kicked. He was also almost dead due to another choice. The mc is a narcissist who is impulsive, he knows/thinks he is the main character. He, like the average wuixa or xianxia protagonist, could not take the bullying. So he ran away to get a better life like wuxia main characters. He gets shitted on by the world as it grants his wish to be special. So every wrong choice he makes would make him fight organizations or individuals with greater strength than himself. The missions are also brutal since you could easily fail them as well.

You are a pot calling the kettle black then 😆. By better situation do you mean edgy very lucky main character who even if they did something stupid would turn out to be good in the end. The backstory of this main character is that he is narcissistic and impulsive, also stupid. He thinks he is the mc therefore he should be lucky. The world then slaps his face because it enforces the rule "treasure is associated with danger" on the mc. Even yellow treasure mission could almost kill him, it is very easy to fail as well. But I guess you only like bland wuxia main characters rather than characters with a personality. The personality even fits in with the novel.
