I have read through chp 25, and I hate the husband-professor-boss. He is cruel & abusive to the FL, uses threats to her mother & brother to force her to stay, forces himself on her when he wants, berates her publically while papering over the problem privately. For example, she is late to class (5 min) because her bicycle crashed (why couldn't her husband give her a ride to school?), so he throws her out of class and refuses to accept her work, but the next day he calls her to his office and has her clandestinely sign the list of people who turned in the assignment. He is arbitrarily abusive & caring, which is far harder to deal with.

LIKEIt's not because you're too American. This book just gives me a headache like if we wanted an abusive male lead we would get one where the Male lead went to jail for sexual abuse or something. There nothing wrong with aggression but he takes it to a whole new level. I cannot stand him and she is so weak. Di-fucking-vorce him. Like why is she still with him
Perhaps he does redeem himself sufficiently through the book, but I don't have enough faith in any author's capability to frame his abuse to be willing to slodge through the FL suffering.
Cuz in the beginning he used her mom n bro to keep her to stay
