So basically, he’s a realistic and well done character with flaws? “How preposterous! This novel must be garbage! Let me write my spam 1 star review real quick due to my crippling inferiority complex!” Hey bro, stick to chinese martial arts novels like Martial World or the Asura one or whatever it’s called. They offer the most overpowered characters you can get, and infinite willpower! How cool is that! The only downside to these novels is the fact that the characters never develop, everything repeats, and no progress is actually made within the story. Personally, I’ll stick to this novel. With a likeable, (yet sometimes frustrating) relatable (yet flawed) main character. I am not a wonderful writer or book enthusiast, but I do have a smidge of common sense with some elementary and middle school education. That’s all it takes to recognize a good novel, don’t even need to go into high school for this much.
To be fair to him, I'm starting to think the eastern approach to novels is to not include character development at all and to focus solely on strength or whatever. So from that point of view, yeah I guess our MC here is weak, but thats because the western approach to story telling involves a character arc.
