Translation quality and regularity of updates were given a 5 even though they're trial novels with the first 40 chapters out of the 60 of the trial being free to read. Drugged female lead, male lead who was in an accident and lost his memory (likely drugged too), leading to the FL having an illegitimate kid after her family disowns her. This leads to my two least favourite tropes: the white lotus sister, the wicked stepmother, and the FL's father who is led around by his p*nis as the stepmother and stepdaughter gain control of the company. The other part I loathe is the 3/4 year old genius child who has conversations wholly inappropriate and illogical for a little kid. It wasn't cute in FMHM and it's equally annoying here. Pluses? The FL has a backbone. There's lots of calling the FL an idiot for going to River Town where her horrible family is instead of staying in Paris. You need to understand several real-life things to make this story work. First, there are hundreds of would-be designers in Paris. There are competitions held by department stores, boutiques, and then there's reality shows to get recognized as a designer. Designers can't just open a studio and become famous designers. Rent has to be paid, advertising, you need KOL's and fashion mags to recognise the designer and someone has to pay studio and boutique rent, the staff, the materials, and electricity. Conglomerates, venture capitalists and individual investors fund this even if the designer comes from a wealthy background. The FL is freelancing when hired by the Lee conglomerate based in River Town (fictional Chinese city). As a new employee she would be expected to move where the company headquarters are located to develop working relationships with the company and to learn and see how the company markets itself. It's key that you understand that she had to go. If Google hires you, you're going to the Google campus to be immersed in the company's mission. If you say she should have stayed in Paris instead of going back to where her crap family is, you don't understand how fashion or international business works because your only choice is to go - or refuse the job. The second thing to understand is the sale of a business. The Lee company is in the midst of a merger and acquisition with CBS company when the F and her son reach River Town. This is surprising to the FL but it's clear that she knows her talents are a saleable asset for Lee and CBS. If she 'just went back to Paris', CBS could sue her for millions for breach of contract because as a designer she is an asset that CBS bought from the LEE company. Her travel costs, any studio design and craftsmen hired would be costs she would owe if she broke her contract and left. The third thing you need to understand is Chinese wealth and Chinese fashion. The majority of the world's wealth is concentrated in Asia. According to The Times, 76% of the Rich List is Asian. Paris and New York gave the weakest fashion weeks, followed by HK and it's political troubles this year. ****ers over social welfare and pensions in France have routinely vandalised high end stores like Hèrmes, Louis Vuitton, Bally. Burned the storefronts and smashed windows. Social unrest and frequent strikes have made Paris as a fashion centre a loss leader. Showing in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul is a positive due to the concentration of actual wealth in the audience at shows versus bloggers and KOLs. China's been buying stakes in major fashion labels, and most European fashion work is done in Prato, Italy by Chinese nationals. Look at Chen Man on Tumblr or look at Guo Pei who dressed Rhianna for the Met Ball, Chinese rappers playing in the NBA All-star game, and Feiyue trainers as a fashion statement in London and the EU. You can't bash China's role in fashion. If you understand that you can get on to the ML who calls off his wedding to fall in love first. The conflicts are resolved fast and the pace is fast.
